Comics JMS off Amazing

Wow, I hate to break this to you, but you are in a very serious minority.

According to what?? According to message board popularity contests?? Man, that's ****ing pathetic.

No, according to every publication out there, PLUS THE FACT THAT JMS SAID IT SUCKED.

Is that good enough for you? Speaking of pathetic...

When did JMS ever say it sucked? Opinion is opinion. I enjoyed Sins Past. I tend not to respect critics opinions, though I'd like to see you attempt to show me every publication flat out said it sucked.

Oh, crap, Kain I just remembered who you are. I apologize for those comments back there, but I still hold my opinion that JMS sucks...yeah.

Thanks. Apology accepted.

No. Not period. The fact that that is your argument means that you are not an intelligent comic book fan. It is not up to you what good change is and what bad change is. I enjoyed Sins Past immensely. It's a well written story that tugs at some heart strings. Like the moment when Peter was in MJ's arms unconcious and he's thinking of Gwen and says "I love you". Very tender moment.
Oh, barf. It is not a well writen story. It's not even a well thought out story. It's compromised crap that should have been killed before it saw press.

?????? WTH?

This thread is just getting painful to read.

You loved him...you hated him....he's gone. It's over. He had crap stories and he had some (believe it or not) great stories. He Took us in an exciting new direction...and then he totally botched it.

Storylines of his I've LIKED:

-Coming Home
-Until The Stars Turn Cold
-Hydra
-The War at Home

Stories of his that I've HATED:
-Sins Past
-Skin Deep
-The Other
-Mr. Parker Goes to Washington

Things he's done that I liked:
-Aunt May learning Peter is Spider-Man
-Involving Mary Jane more in his life/his treatment of her character
-Easing the pain of the Unmasking
-Bringing the book up from the depths of the Howard Mackie/ John Byrne relaunch days.
-Peter as a teacher.
-Peter standing up to Tony.

Thing he's done that I HATED:
-Eliminating the rest of the supporting cast
-Tarnishing Gwen's life and death.
-The Goblin kids.
-Peter killing a guy by eating his head.
-Peter=Tony's Beeyatch
-Revamping Peter's origin.
-Lame-ass Molten Man rip-off.

See, as much as I'm known as a "JMS hatur", I DO like alot of his work on ASM. The good stuff is pretty good, it's just that the bad stuff was REALLY bad...so much so that, as Doc Destruction said, it negates the good things.

Honestly, I'd just assume that everyone would be happy to be getting some new blood in the title. JMS has been on there for 6 years...that's a helluva run for any writer. The lovers should be happy he lasted so long, and the haturs should be happy it's finally over.

Um...not trying to fan the flames, but....

...it's true. Joey Q and JMS both did an interview on Newsarama, and they both said that Sins Past and The Other were mistakes.

^^well, said, shin... well said.

"Hatur"?

Let me say, for myself at any rate, that I'm not a JMS hatEr. I don't think that even his best Spider-man stuff ranks with the classics of the past, but I still think he's capable of great stories. His run has disappointed me extremely, and I hope the next person is a notch better. Which is what I would be hoping for even if I liked JMS's run.

And whether or not the "troubles" are over isn't decided by JMS's departure...

Wow, that's interesting. JMS pretty much said as much to me in an email about The Other. But Sins Past? I'd like to know what they said about Sins Past.

What I'll miss most from JMS is the tender character moments. He's done some beautiful stuff like that. And issue 36 actually full on brought me to tears.

I know six years is a long run. But I worry the next writer won't be able to do the core characters aswell as JMS did.

Willing to admit I was right now? :woot:

One of the problems with JMS was that he IGNORED the core characters. Outside of MJ and Aunt May, who did JMS really explore? Pete's whole support cast was discarded pretty much.

Well it sounds believable. I'd still like to know what exactly was said. If any of you have a link or a quote?

You can see why he did away with the rest of the cast. But like we've said, he's been on the title a long time. I myself wish he delved into more supporting characters. Or he could have made more supporting characters from Peter's school. That's one complaint I have about JMS - he had the great idea of making Peter a teacher in a high school, and then did very little with that idea.

That's where we heard about their views on it. It was a Wizard article.

And why did he have to do away with the cast exactly?

1. Concentrate on getting the marriage back on track.

2. Concentrate on making Aunt May interesting and important again.

3. Concentrate on making MJ interesting and important in Peter's life again.

Now after that, after that I really don't know why he didn't do stories with other supporting characters.

If he was such an amazing writer, he could have done that while keeping Pete's friends around.

Not really. JMS once said somewhere that the Spider-Man books seemed like they were no longer about Peter Parker, there were so many supporting cast members walking around. I absolutely get this point.

If you're going to bring in supporting cast members, you need to devote time to them. JMS needed the pages for Peter, MJ, and May. And at that time, it was absolutely right. They're the 3 most important and integral characters of the book.

But after he achieved what he achieved, I really don't know why he didn't bring in more cast.

Wow, I couldn't disagree with JMS more. His friends are his support network, they kept him grounded. Deb and Flash, etc. made it more colorful and interesting. Adding Felicia helped out as well.

I don't see the point in having talking heads just for the sake of them being there.

If they are part of a story, that's another matter.
