Joe Wright to Helm 'Pan'

A fifth pirates of the Carribean film is like the unwanted guest at your party who won't leave.

How many series that started that good had such a steady decline? Each film legitimately gets worse, with the 4th being an almost completely waste of time.

Thank you. The fourth one was so forgettable. Litterly the cast was walking around in circles in the jungle, doing nothing. I felt how low budget as the movie dragged into the 2nd act.

The worst offender was the dreary digtial cinematography. The past three movies even, even if the 2nd and 3rd ones had faults, were beautiful to look at.

Hook is a great movie. It's also a polarizing film depending on what generation you're from. Ove noticed that Gen-Xers and above loathe the film while Gen Ys like myself like it; or think its harmless enough not to hate.

The score is amazing, Hoffman is grand and the production value is fantastic.
But the 2003 version is superior :D

I don't get it? Why no Hook?

Probably saving him for a sequel. Everything is done with a potential franchise in mind these days.

I want a faithful adaption of the book/play someday :(

The 2003 film was very faithful, and TBH I love it so much that I don't really see the point in them doing another straight telling of the tale... because IMO they've already done it perfectly.

I'm really interested in this project.

At the end of the day, I love the character and the world of Never Never Land, and i'm cool with them expanding on it as long as the heart of the story is still there.

I also really enjoyed the movie Hook. But I know that I am in the minority.

Really? I don't think I know a single person who doesn't love Hook!

Sure but I think Hook is unappreciated gem with heart.

Hooks great, but like with most franchises lately, they tend to save the arch nemesis for the second film in the series :)

Completely agree, especially on your description on the 4th one. It feels so low budget and like everyone is just killing time until the finale comes.

I still like the second and third for the most part, despite their many faults. But there is no doubt they are ridiculously pretty.

It would be too much for me to handle if they turned Peter Pan into a franchise. And I don't mean it in a positive way.
It's best if they only do one film, where they both start and conclude the story.

A trilogy (or even more films) how can they possible make it interesting? By inventing new villains? Or by expanding Pan's universe and adding other fantasy characters?

Getting a franchise out of Pan is easy. Getting a a good one would be the trick.

Thinking of something off the top of my head, you could have Peter's origin, the Wendy film and the finale where he finally grows up.

They also have to be committed and try to do any Pan sequels one after another because they don't have the luxury of a Harry Potter where it's okay for the kids to grow up.

Please stop giving them ideas, people :cmad:

I am 18, i watched it recently. A lot of things i found anoying, and i didn't like Peter Pan going to Neverland as still a baby, he needed to have tasted a little of childhood before deciding not to grow up, and i thought neverland Basically stopped time, so if a baby went there he would stay a baby while there.

Though i enjoyed the rest of the film, i can see why Spielberg sometimes expresses disapointment with it, but i felt like it had a lot of heart. That one and Burton's Wonderland also seem to me like they could have easily been in continuity with the Disney classics, though that was probably not the intention.

Did you just compare Hook and Burton's Wonderland? That is so odd.

They're both sequels to the original story instead of adaptations, is that not true?
Hook feels nothing like the original Disney film to me. Alice does a tiny bit, but the general look and idea gives more credence to it being in continuity.

And another thing with both is that Alice actually has a better rating than Hook, with 50% against Hook's 40%. While Hook is loved by people from its generation, Alice is also loved by most girls from this generation.

It's Basically nostalgia vs nostalgia

The best thing about Hook (which is one of my favourite films of all time) is that it's pure unashamed kid fun :)

There are tonnes of flaws and bits that don't quite add up, but it just doesn't matter because the whole tone of the thing says 'dear god don't take me seriously'.

It does such a good job of capturing what it's like to be a kid, that it's impossible not to feel nostalgic about it.

Wonderland came out how many years ago? How is it nostalgia? Twilight isn't nostalgia either.

.....So I wonder who they will cast Tinkerbell and how they will go about her character.

He needs to cast Saoirse Ronan as Tink. They have worked together, she is a great actress and she looks the part. Also cast Keira somehow. She can be Peter's mother or something. I will watch this movie a 1,000 times if he does it :D

I was thinking Joey King myself, she was so adorable yet awesome as the China Doll in Oz: The Great and Powerful. Also, can we get Dante Basco to make a cameo, pretty please?

Joey King is a little too young for the role imo, but she is pretty great. China Doll is one of those characters I love while also depressing me. Fix her family!!!!
