Man...where to start?

Not only one of the finest WW2 movies, I'd go as far as to say that it's one of the best action thrillers ever made. Often called "the last great black and white action movie".

It's a long movie, but there's not a second that's wasted. Every line has importance, every shot has relevance. The beautiful black & white cinematography makes it even better. The music? Wow.
Everything sequence is choreographed perfectly.
I just love it so much.

What's it about? A Nazi general wants to keep a buttload of French art and take it to Germany. The Resistance wants the art to stay in France and ask railroad engineer Paul Labiche to sabotage the train, who's having doubts about risking the life of people for art...I'll stop there.

A powerful message, a great thriller, and a kickass action movie rolled into one.
Oh and the train crashes?
Listen to Mr. Frankenheimer...."I wanted all the realism possible. There are no tricks in this film. When trains crash together, they are real trains. There is no substitute for that kind of reality."

If only today's CGI-happy directors paid any attention to master craftsmen like Frankenheimer...
