Fantasy Live Action ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ (Universal)

Teaser was under 2 minutes long. How does sueb1863 know they're not doing anything different at all, unless they have seen the entire live action film? Personally, I'll wait and watch the movie before condemning it.
He doesn't need to know. The point is that's what they're selling. If they want people to think differently, they'd shouldn't sell it in such a manner. You can personally do what you like. But taking the marketing at face value is more then valid.

Of course, definitely sit out the movie if you'd like. I'll definitely do what I'd like and watch the film before judging it based off a teaser.

Then why take a shot at someone else for doing what they do?

I have the right to use sarcasm when I see fit.
Sure. But that is not a live and let live situation. You're passing judgement on someone for doing the most basic, obvious thing. Reacting to advertisement.

Time is finite and there are so many things you can be doing. There is literally not enough time to watch every film or show, to play every video game, read every book. To dismiss based on the advertisement isn't a bug, it's the function.

You can feel and say what you want. I don't agree with passing judgment based off a 1:15 teaser and I chose to exercise sarcasm with my response. That's not going to change, especially based on my excitement for the movie. I am choosing to approach this with an open mind, despite what a teaser has shown. So, yes, live and let live.

Gotta get the people excited for HtTYD land at Epic Universe. I’m interested to see what they add, if they add anything.

Nothing about this looks interesting to me. I loved the animated trilogy, and this looks like a lesser rehash. Pass.

I get that is a pretty much shot for shot remake, but man, really don't care about spoiling anything.

It looks fine though it looks like a movie that came out in 2013.

Yeah, no thanks. I did this already with the "live action" Lion King, not gonna fall for it again. Even though this looks like they put effort into the production design and wardrobe and the actors seem to be on point with their characters, if it's basically a shot for shot remake then it's pointless other than a nostalgia cash-in. Which even then seems too soon given the original is only 15 years old. Even the older kids who saw the animated HTTYD when it came out probably don't have kids of their own yet.

Yeah, they might as well had just made How to Train Your Dragon 4 as a live-action thing.

At least it would’ve been kind of the best of both worlds, a continuation but seeing these characters in live-action.

Yep this was only made for Epic Universe.

Deconstructing the live action Disney remakes, the casting of those movies was a huge draw for audiences. Emma Watson playing Belle, Will Smith playing the Genie, Beyonce as Nala, etc. all were basically stunt casting to bait millennials into theaters in droves and it worked. But at least Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin diverged enough from the animated films to at least be somewhat different. The Lion King had practically the same script and score as the original and all the other problems it had like the photorealistic animals not being able to emote only made it worse.

That's basically what I'm expecting from this, except swapping out photorealistic CGI animals for a bunch of mostly unknown actors and James Earl Jones for Gerard Butler as the honorary "actor reprising the character they played in the original". The animated movie was a fully realized 3D animated film with a great script. After seeing that comment from DeBlois about barely changing the original script, there's nothing left to convince me that this is just a meaningless cash grab. There's nothing to improve on. Had they approached it as a way of making it different by following the books more closely maybe it'd be a different story.
