John Turturro IS Carmine Falcone.

Actually, just the first two movies.
No Italian mobster in sight in "The Dark Knight Rises."
That's what I said. "Two of the last three solo Batman films." There haven't been any solo movies since Rises.

I can see Turturro playing the typical Don Corleone-esque Falcone pretty well, but I'm also wondering if maybe Reeves is looking to modernize the character a little bit. US mob bosses in 2019 ain't exactly the dignified stereotype they were in the 1980s and they sure as hell aren't anything like the Godfather. So it'd be interesting to see a modern take on that whole deal.

I think a Sopranos type is more like that. It was partly about how the old days are long gone and the clash of generations which reflected in the main characters. I could have seen Turturro on Tony's crew or even be a Ralph or Tony B type of character. If they go for either of those that's already more exciting than the comic Falcone.

Honestly, if this character is just more traditional on paper then just getting Turturro will already improve it.

Carmine Falcone to Selina Kyle :o

It could yep, if the movie is set nowdays. We'll see.

Anyways very interresting choice, not the obvious one, but thats one the reason that makes it interresting. Like it has been said Carmine Falcone is a Don Corleone pastiche, so it can be reinvented... Turturo has also a lot of range, and has already played Maffioso mob boss. Very curious to see what is his and Reeves take
Modern Gangsters are either ex-Mayor lawyers and reality tv stars who are “politicians” or purple drank drinkin’ rappers.

I'm not arguing against his potential performance, but this is another casting choice I question.

Awesome casting. Love Turturro in pretty much everything (other than Transformers, obviously).

Can’t wait for Fan4stic to pop in with his usual “this would be a better casting” post.
So close...
I haven't given a lot of thought to Carmine Falcone fan casting, maybe because I see a more post main mob story for this. But looking for a casting, I'm leaning into someone like Paul Sorvino or potentially someone like Ray Liotta, if we're going for a younger age range. Though for a prequel to the DCEU Batman I had Ray Winstone fancast.

I also think I haven't necessarily said what would be better, but more would I prefer.

All these casting choices truly make me feel like we're back in the Burton era. And that is a compliment.

I like John Turturro, great actor. Can't wait to see how he does.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you here, but in what way? I'm intrigued. :D

People we never expected.

Well that's easy when every fancasting seems to rotate between Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Aaron Paul, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

This movie is getting HUGE.
The King of Superheroes is coming back!

People we never expected.

Pattinson, Kravitz, Wright and Dano were all pretty strongly touted as candidates for their respective characters prior to their casting. Farrell and Serkis are the only real curveballs. I think even Turturro is a pretty safe and obvious pick for an old school mobster type.

Yea, Farrell and Serkis are by far the castings to me that at first glance generated the most "....huh?" reaction from me.

We can only hope that this version of Carmine Falcone has eczema on his feet and that factors heavily into the plot.

I know they're not connected at all, and this is pure fanfiction on my part, but I could imagine the Carmine Falcone from Batman Begins (recast, obviously), getting out of Arkham Asylum, either treated or just escaped during the fracas in The Narrows, trying to reclaim his criminal empire but still affected by the toxin and more manic/jittery/unstable (in other words, more how we imagine Turturro).

He tries to, as The Joker in The Dark Knight says, "get back to the way things were", but things are now further along. What started with The Joker has expanded with the "freaks" like Riddler/Penguin/Hatter/etc. replacing the old-school mobsters.
