Action-Adventure John Wick: Chapter 4

Creed 3 was great, but this one is definitely a must see on the biggest, loudest screen possible Iceman and hopefully you also get to see it with the right audience because that's what makes the experience even better IMO.
I was going to watch Creed III partly because I thought it would be the best, partly because it's been out longer and also because it got legit good reactions, but the reactions by EVERYONE in here have been off the scale. Not even the standard contrarian in sight. Looks like I have been left no choice by you people. :funny:

I post on mobile ...y'all, multiquoting from a phone is hard for an old brain - had to get out of bed and login to a pc to do it. :D

You know how I feel about D&D. I definitely say still see it, but yes. Do Chapter 4 first. And then maybe do it another two times. Then watch the others. :cwink:
YOU keep changing my plans! I thought I'd be safe with D&D, assumed it would be a personal guilty pleasure that hardly anyone else on the Hype would enjoy and I also thought it would review terribly. Then yeah the reviews come in, and Master Darth waltzes into the thread with no warning and announces he's off to a special premium showing and then raves about it on his return! Sword and Sorcery fantasy is my thing and I have all the nostalgia for it and want it do well even more than CBMs - almost feel I owe it to the genre. Then as I reconsider watching that and Creed III next with Shazam having fallen behind in the rankings, you come up with "JW4 is easily better than Maverick". Give me a chance man! :funny:

Feel like there's a steep drop off here between John Wick 4, Creed III, D&D, and Shazam. Shazam will be available to rent in less than a month already too.
Feels like there is pretty much a consensus on JW4 > Creed III >>>> Shazam. Not sure where most other people put D&D but still a must-watch for me. JW4 it is then.

Shazam's a rental. Focus on this and the others. :funny:
If it wasn't a CBM I'd have actively chosen to skip it at this point. I kind of want to see it for the non-Levi people in it but realistically it will be out for rental before I'll get around to it, so one problem potentially solved at least.

Saw this on Wednesday and Hoooooooooly Shiiiiieeeeeeeet
Stahelski and co. not only knocked it out of the park but also into the moon, this might be the best action movie ever made, it might top Fury Road for me ngl. Operatic madness.

Is anyone going to come in here and not rave?!!

Glad you enjoyed it!! I love my action films so best ever is going to take a lot to get anywhere close, but I'll more than settle for even joint top JW film.

Chad stahelski and the team really gave it their all here. This is the film Chads directorial career was building towards. Everything he did on the previous films was perfect here and evolved into something truly mesmerizing in every sense.

Movie just ended. Unless something unexpected absolutely blows me away, there are only three movies that remotely have a shot of topping this as film of the year.

Start to finish this is a tour de force, and near pitch perfect modern western. For all the praise the action should rightfully get, the quiet moments are beautiful and well earned. The only major complaint I have is about how rough a lot of the VFX were at times, especially environment compositing, but that's such small fish in the grand scope. There's a particular sequence in this film where I thought that Stahelski should get serious credit for his direction come award season. The technical craft on display puts 90% of the action film industry to shame.

Yes, it's more of the same. But when it is *this* well done and you get these adrenaline rushes at the monumental work that is blasting on the screen, you simply don't care.
This is what the John Wick movies are and this is the John Wickiest of them all. The last 45 minutes are exceptional and Donnie Yen steals the movie.
4/5 and it could go higher on rewatches.

Man, I am so glad someone else said this, because I couldn't agree more. I know some people here enjoyed it and I mean no disrespect towards them, but Keanu's physicality was beyond wasted in that movie.

I mean you see what he's actually capable of and willing to put his body through in all four of these movies and the best we could get in that fourth Matrix movie is him force pushing people?

Such a shameful waste of his talent IMO.
Yeah so I actually liked matrix resurrections but you’re right. The action is easily the worst in the series and Keanu still be awesome was not taken advantage enough. Some people had the nerve to say it was because he is older. Are you kidding? Have y’all seen John Wick?

Seriously, that was some of the best action cinema I’ve ever seen. This series was already awesome but they really cemented it in greatest of all time status imo with this one. Even when the action wasn’t happening I was completely amazed and astonished by the world and the Characters and the themes being played with here. And then when the action happens? Holy god. It’s the type of stuff I dream of. Done in the best way possible. I won’t accept anything less than how the John Wick and Mission Impossible people get things done. And damn does that start at the top of those two franchises with Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise.

Sounds like an amazing action film, but with plenty more to offer beyond that. JW & MI stand out so much compared to other action film fare. It’s a whole team of top talents that are contributing to how consistently high quality these films are and those 2 veteran actor leads are outdoing younger actors in their prime with their dedication to making these films so good (Cruise with Maverick too). Very happy to see these films get the credit they receive.

Awesome, would have been disappointed with anything less at this point. The box office legs are going to be good as word of mouth spreads. I’ve told a few people who don’t keep up with films news that this is getting an unusually good reaction for eg. And my own choice to view this ahead of other good films that have been out longer is purely on this word of mouth spreading.

The numbers going up, very nice. If it opens to that I expect it to get over $200m with supreme word of mouth. A 3 multiplier would take it easily beyond.

Sounds like you liked this one a little more than Quantumania and Shazam? :funny: Another gold star for this film to get a glowing review from Mr Hilariously Harsh :D, but very glad you enjoyed it. Also everyone seems to be saying the same that despite the action being absolutely S-rank tier, there is regardless a lot more to the film beyond that.

That'd be an understatement :hehe:

This is definitely true though. As much as I loved the raw action, seriously technical perfection, my favorite scenes in the film are when the film stops to breathe.
