Daredevil Jon Bernthal IS Frank Castle / The Punisher! - Part 1

Yupppp it's happening folks! Im gonna completely ignore the naysayers because as long as they are faithful to the comics and use some of the storylines we know and love Im for sure going to be happy with it!

I knew it was gonna happen! I'm more hyped for this than any of the movies now.

Those s***bags won't know what hit them now.

I love the MCU and all the other more famous characters, but The Punisher is my absolute favorite Marvel character and Im gonna be able to watch this in the comfort of my own home! WOOOOO this news has me excited as ****

I agree with whoever said they need to re-consider only 2 shows per year :D.

After Defenders, give me DD season 3, JJ season 2 and Punisher :D.

I don't think we could see it at the earliest until March 2018. Unless they step up production I suppose. It really depends on money and scheduling.

Iron Fist is in production now. Luke Cage is in post-production and debuts September. My guess is that Iron Fist debuts about March-ish 2017. Defenders starts filming later this year. So that probably gets the fall or winter 2017 slot.

Then you have to think about Jessica Jones S2 and then Daredevil S3.

We are going to need more than three shows a year to get all these guys. Otherwise the hiatuses will get longer and longer.

We are definitely going to need more than 2 if we don't want to wait years and years for new seasons. That's pretty much the case for Jessica Jones right now.

That is unless they can sneak it in before Defenders. Not sure if that's possible.

Well, we've gotten a Punisher S1 announcement before a Jessica Jones S2 announcement, right? Same with Daredevil S3. So I think Fall 2017 or March 2018 is when we'll see Punisher.

We need 4 shows a year. After all, the episodes come out on the same day and many binge watch it in just a weekend, so it's not like 4 shows would take up too many weeks in a year.

Excellent news! Punisher was the best thing in Daredevil's second season (imo), so he definitely deserves a series.

Now, if only I could get one of my favorites, Moon Knight, on netflix... :)

I think his other flaw is that he can't realistically accept to go to war against crime and without really anticipating the consequences. He's waging a war of vengeance on these criminals, but then these criminals want vengeance on him in a vicious cycle. And they try to respond 10-fold.
In Punisher: Circle of Blood they covered that very issue. When everyone thinks the Punisher killed Kingpin it creates a mob war to fill the vacuum in which innocent people are killed. The theme is reinforced with a subplot that has Tony Massera, the son of a mobster that the Punisher killed, getting guilted by his uncle to give up med school to seek vengeance on the Punisher.

I hope they explore some of the moralistic tones of what the Punisher is doing. He's not a pure hero or maybe even a traditional anti-hero and shouldn't be depicted as such.

I don't necessarily agree with the sentiment but I've always found it interesting Joss Whedon's description of the Punisher as a fascist.

Nearly every MCU hero is a killer so there isn't really a moral debate to be had with most of them besides Daredevil or Spider-Man. Jessica Jones would of probably saved more lives if she killed Killgrave sooner.

To be fair, someone like Iron Man may kill villains, but that is usually in self defense or protection of others, Captain America is a solider acting in war like situations, Thor mainly kills fanatical creatures and its hard to apply Earth laws to fantastically realms. The Punisher is a more like Dexter, a serial killer who actively hunts down criminals and kills them before they can do anything, Punisher is more of a proactive killer then any MCU hero.

Anyway what villains should show up in this series? I liked Nicky Cavella and the Slavers from the Max series, those are guys who the kind of evil scumbags that make you root for Punisher despite the fact what he is doing is wrong on legal and ethical level.

Good choices but im gonna throw in Barracuda. He's another veteran but on the other side of the war. He beats up Frank pretty good in the comics and is a very intimidating figure, I think he'd be badass and menacing to watch.

Terry Crews would make a fantastic Barracuda

It's sort of funny how Punisher can rationalize his way out of that. I would definitely call that a character flaw. I don't think it's so simple that he can be like, "Well if you kill someone that's on you blah blah blah."

It doesn't have much to do with how many weeks in a year Marvel shows could take up, it has to do with crews and budgets from ABC, Marvel and Netflix along with all the other shows they release. On top of that, there's the whole "Quality over quantity" thing which could come into effect if they chose to go down that route. I think it'd be healthy to do 3 a year after the Defenders airs/premieres.

Yeah this is kind of going to be an issue going forward. I think they could get away with three a year maybe. Or at least have two the same years as Defenders because defenders is only eight episodes.

We aren't talking about run of the mill procedurals like CSI here. These shows are a bit more complex and they are all being shot on location in New York.

Plus you have to deal with the scheduling of all these actors and creative teams as well.

That's how he is. Honestly he is just not a very nice person, as much of an anti-hero as people try to make him out to be.

So there you go. He's flawed in that he is this anti-hero figure, and he finds extreme rationalizations for the questionable things that he does. But he's still going after bad guys.

What I like about Punisher is he can challenge the reader, what he does is both illegal and immoral, but some the criminals he goes against are so awful, that you can root for him on a emotional level, its a heart vs. head type debate, it can uncomfortable to root for the Punisher, but I think that is what makes him compelling.

For example, Punisher knew killing the group of slavers he was going against would not end the human trafficking industry, but the people running that operation were so awful, had such a disregard for human, life, you can see why Punisher killed them.

I agree. All those things are inherent to the character.

So happy about this news.
I've wanted this since daredevil was first announced.
There's a ton of little one issue stories that I'd love to see adapted.

Definitely want Jigsaw as the main villain.
Would also love to see barracuda and The Russian.
Maybe Ma Gnucci.

I'd like to see if they would do somebody like bushwacker and how they would pull him off.

I would have really liked to see Finn Cooley with his disfigurements..... But

have plenty of action and suspense.
Pull crime bosses from the Marvel Mob ranks. Not to mention have some street level enforcers, from the C or B list, that can be defeated by Frank with some effort.

We also need the skull.

No microchip needed yet.
