Hopefully they don't change a damn thing about this cuz it was a pretty good read (though Last days is way better and return to barrow is a great conclusion)
They've added a kid brother to Stella's character. I don't remember there being a brother in the comic. At least not in a big role.

Dark Days Ahead for 30 Days of Night?
Source: Ryan Rotten
October 16, 2007

Those who follow the works of Steve Niles closely are aware that the feral universe he created in 30 Days of Night, where vampires run rampant, didn't end with the first graphic novel. Shortly after "30 Days" was published, Niles penned "Dark Days" a sequel set in Los Angeles. ShockTillYouDrop.com asked 30 Days of Night producer Sam Raimi if the groundwork for "Days" is at all being considered as a cinematic follow-up.

"I only read it once and it was a few years ago and thought it was great at the time," he says. "It is very different but I don't know if there is going to be a sequel to 30 Days of Night nor do I know, if there was, if it would be based upon that. We'd have to see if it's successful at the box office and see if people really want to see a sequel. And if they do then I'd probably huddle with [artist] Ben [Templesmith] and Steve [Niles] and my partner, Rob [Tapert], and figure out what they thought it should be. Mostly I want to stay true, if there was a sequel, to the books. I think that's what got us there in the first place."

Niles' "Dark Days" was soon followed by a third chapter entitled "Return to Barrow," also released through IDW Publishing.
If 30 Days of Night is good and sequel is greenlit it better be Dark Days and not anything original.

Just saw the movie tonight.Yeah.....it ****in rocked.

Caught a screening earlier tonight. A really good horror flick. Definitely worth seeing.

Some of the most brutal kill scenes I've seen in a while.

cant wait to see this . i ve heard good things so far

Only thing I don't care for is that they don't speak english like in the book. It's some weird garbled vampire speak.

Uhh, I have a bad feeling that they butchered the comic. :csad:

(I read couple of interviews.)

excellent movie

9/10

Finally a breath of fresh air in the horror genre I hope they do all the books Return to Barrow was awesome

It's at 43% on Rotten Tomatoes....rental!

it was at like a 27 two days ago, and it is already up to a 55, clearly what that shows is a lot of internet critics who take themselves to serious (or wish people would take them seriously) are taking the elitest approach on this, and now when actual critics reviews are coming in (ie newspaper and magazine reviews that only come out on the friday of the release) its getting good reviews and their numbers are getting better

also it has an 88 user raiting, its a good flick

I'm trusting the guys on here- not the critics. Thanks for your reviews guys, can't wait until I see it next week. (Going home next weekend, my mom's a huge vampire fanatic so I told her I'd go see it with her).

Sometimes its smart listening to critics- other times (most times) the audience counts alot more.

it was alright. comic was way better.

the shaky cam really detracts from the final fight in my opinion

9/10?? either you guys are REAL giving or you've never read the comics.

So here is my actual review which has no spoilers for either the book nor movie.

30 days the film is.....meh. Thats it. Its ok. Not terrible but it is no where near as good as both it could have and should have been. I was really excited for the film after reading the book because I could see how easily it could translate to the screen s oimagine my excitment when I heard they were actually making it!.

Now what the film seems to do is take a lot of the real good, inventive, great ideas (some of which lead into and are the reason for the next 2 books) and leave them in the comic. It got to the point where I was thinking "my god if they left THAT out, then there is no WAY they are going to actually end it the same". (luckly I was wrong and they end it pretty faithfully to the book)

What we also get is a movie that comes off not quite sure what it wants to be. Instead of being a great blend of gore and psychological (ie; excorsist) we get a film that tries to be either one or the other.
It also looks like it was shot by 2 different people which is a real shame as some of the stuff looks real beautiful while other stuff looks very middle of the road.

The vampires... ok they LOOK just like Templesmiths artwork which is really strange when you think about it but thats where it stops. They merge the 2 lead vampires from the book into one character and this means we lose motive and alot of explination (as well as the afermentioned set up for sequels) and instead of the vampires speaking english they speak.......KLINGON?!? WTF?!?

The film as a whole is enjoyable and its not terrible but it isnt going to blow your socks off either. It does itself a diservice by not being as faithful to the books and actually giving a great new twist to the genre (like the comic sucessfully did) and comes off as a bit ..average really. It gives you the feeling that this movie could just bleed into other horror films instead of standing on its own like it should.

I would rate it 3 out of 5.

What annoyed me about it the most:

Contrived dramatic tension in splitting up Stella and Eben.

I never read the comic bt I felt the movie was pretty meh and borderline boring.

The ending was the most ridiculous thing to me also.
Injecting himself with the infected blood of the recently dead officer to get the power of the vampires? WTF?

^ Read the comic as it explains it much better. It actually is pretty cool and makes sense.

Saw the movie tonight...it was ok but I was expecting more.

The ending was dumb and so was the big death during the fight. Backstories for the characters were almost non-existant. Grannies pot smoking was also a little dumb. WTF language did they speak!?!?!?!?! They seemed to kill of a bunch of vamps but it seemed they kept adding more and more.

On the plus side, it was very gory, great action, good plot, and it was total seclusion out there in the middle of no where. It was an ok movie but it should have been more stylized.

6.5/10...it just seemed to drag on and on.

I thought that granny thing was a little weird too. I mean if you have cancer. It probably isn't a good idea to live in an area that pretty much shuts down 30 days out of the year. Murphy's Law dictates, that is when the sh** would start going down hill.

Personally I wouldn't want to see a sequel. This was a good movie and I could only see the sequel as a straight-to-video.

I actually wouldn't mind a prequel. I got the sense from the beginning of the movie. That the Vamps attacked a ship, & left one alive to pre-strike the town.
