Well, tonally I guess The Punisher was a bit more hardcore than in the previous movie, same as this one before Stallone's.

if the marketing is as bad as stated in the us (virtually non-existent from the sounds of it) then word of mouth will be all that it has going for it there. Next weekend will indicate if the word has been listened to or if the public will just wait for the dvd. Based on this first weekend though....that's obviously very poor. The studio should have thrown a few million at promoting the thing stateside to help get a better return (thought the uk ads were very effective btw).
Criminal that the awful resident evil film has better numbers. Someone should be sent to the cubes...
This is one of those movies where the more I think about it after seeing it the more I love it.
I just want to get the rights one day to an animated series that would be kick ass...
You know, I just finished watching Batman:The Dark Knight Returns- Part 1 animated movie. An animated Judge Dredd project should be like that, only more extreme! A touch of Heavy Metal, if you will!
On a related note, I think anyone who is a fan of Frank Miller's work from the 80's, especially TDKR and Ronin, should go watch Dredd!
The thing that is a big problem, is how this could affect other possible movies in future, film makers will look at this film and may water there films down to get the magic pg-13 to attract wider audiences.
Honestly, it's definitely not the R rating that hurt this film. It's the lack of support. The thing that is a big problem, is how this could affect other possible movies in future, film makers will look at this film and may water there films down to get the magic pg-13 to attract wider audiences.
To me this is everything the film should of been, and seems pretty uncomprimising. But that doesn't seem to be translating into figures, which is very disappointing for a film that deserves more.
Hey Balthus, did you almost get a PWZ vibe from Dredd? I actually felt a little Punisher in the movie..

When Punisher:War Zone tanked, fans had that worry also, and then we got Watchmen and Kick-Ass. So, I personally wouldn't jump to that yet.
......and I'm willing to bet Mark Millar's Nemesis will get an R. I just do.

This reminds of me, I haven't been following the Robocop remake very much, but I'm now hearing rumors that it's gonna be PG-13.
Yeah, Hollywood always uses this strategy..
I'm glad that the 'Last Airbender' didn't feature Asian actors as the leads because after the film failed to perform, I can see execs exclaiming "See fellas, Asians can't carry movies!" It would have been a diaster, not to say that the situation is better now for Asian leads in American films.
