Absolutely gutted this has flopped, the movie thoroughly deserves to be successful and get a sequel as everyone pulled out their a-game for this.

Pisses me off that this wont be successful when some awful films are.

Several people at my job had the same question, "Is it out already?". The movie hasn't been marketed very well. Seems to be a problem these days with alot of movies....

^ Exactly, I know a lot of people who were interested in this movie but had no idea when it came out, or that it is out now.

This movie was almost completely solid and satisfying, which is something I've been able to say for so very few movies this year.

They should have realized that to 99% of the general movie going public "judge dread" only equals a failed 90's Sylvester stallone movie.

Most people do not not even realize the character is based on a comic since the comic itself is pretty underground. So this film probably looked like the equivalent of a water world remake to a lot of people.

And there are people whom still just shrug the movie off even after you explain that it's based off a comic and has nothing to do with the Stallone flim.

This also gives people yet another reason to say that unless a comic book is well known to the GA it will flop.

Watched it last night , loved it, sadly the showing I went to was nearly empty, granted, sunday night 10pm might be that way, people working and all.

Not to mention there were only like two 2D showings at the theatre near my place and the remaining were all in 3D. Extra money for what?

Yeah this movie is not going to be a hit by way of marketing etc.... All we can hope for is word of mouth.. You never know it could start to catch on. I mean what else is out that has people flocking to the movies right now? There may be hope...

P.S. I have heard a few gripes about Dredd in here regarding hand to hand combat and gun play.

Dredd is not a superhero with powers, he is a man (law enforcment). Everything that was done in that movie was purely tactical, just watch it again. At what point was hand to hand combat needed in Dredd other then one scene?

Dredds motive was to enforce the law and survive, the movie does a good job of showing how he does that by not using the typical hollywood survival BS. If Dredd gets shot, he gets hurt.

Come next week, Looper, Hotel Transylvania, then after that Frankenweenie. So technically this is the last week where it's kind of dead.

....especially those that are released by Lionsgate.:cmad:

I can't believe that I have to wait till November to watch this. :wall: I wasn't even excited at first, but hearing almost nothing but positive things about it, I can't wait to watch it.

No worries Man, its worth the wait.. I kept hearing good things as well so I went in thinking it was going to be good. This is the 1st time in a while I came out thinking it was better then the hype IMO. It was just my kind of movie.

When explaining to my friends why they should go see "Dredd", I say this.

1. Imagine "Assault on Precinct 13", except as a 2 mile high apartment building.
2. Next, instead of a scared policeman, imagine Snake Plissken is stuck in the building with a magic gun.

Heh, you know, I think Dredd is a film that would be quite enjoyable for John Carpenter to watch!

Anyway, I'm really curious to see what Stallone has to say about this film. Arnold praised Jason Momoa's portrayal of Conan. Will Stallone do the same with Karl Urban?!

Funnily enough, I thought the soundtrack was pretty Carpenter.

Probably not. Urban said he couldn't give a damn what Stallone thought. It felt a little out of character for him. Maybe he was having a bad day or something.

If the marketing is as bad as stated in the US (virtually non-existent from the sounds of it) then word of mouth will be all that it has going for it there. Next weekend will indicate if the word has been listened to or if the public will just wait for the DVD. Based on this first weekend though....That's obviously very poor. The studio should have thrown a few million at promoting the thing Stateside to help get a better return (thought the UK ads were very effective btw).

Criminal that the awful Resident Evil film has better numbers. Someone should be sent to the cubes...

The distributors didn't believe in this movie enough to push it.

It was more or less just distributed by Lionsgate, so nobody over here really had much of a hand in it. It was just one of those take it or leave it things.

What little promotion they had they promoted it as a judge dredd film when they didn't sell to the public that judge dredd exists beyond the stalone film.

The ads didn't scream anything aside from its being a remake/reboot of the stallone film. As opposed to a new take on an already existing character.

I know fanboys are applauding the take, but I think it may have been a little TOO grounded. I've flipped through some of the more iconic storylines from the books, and it probably could have done well to include some robots, mutants and Dark Judges.

Wouldn't it be possible to still include all of that stuff in sequels? Did the director, writers or Urban say where they see a sequel heading?
