Judge Dredd Reboot!!

Gerard Butler for Judge Dredd.

Statham could be good or Clancy Brown if they go with an older Dredd.

I think this time they could use a storyline like Democracy/America and make it more of a multicharacter film including P.O.V.'s from citizens and/or judges of everyday life in Mega-City 1, because Dredd doesn't really have an emotional arc. They tried to do that with the Stallone version...

Gerard Butler for Judge Dredd.

Because he's Scottish (and therefore the next best thing to being English, LIKE 2000AD - even though the character of Dredd is American) or because he was in 300 and gets suggested for every comicbook role under the sun as a result? :cwink:

Anyway, I was going through my old photobucket account and came across some screencaps I made of the Stallone movie:-

Whatever gripes people have with the film, no one can say that Mega City One (and the production design in general) wasnt spot on and looked like it had came from the pages of AD, and we'll be lucky if we have the same quality and attention to detail this time around.

Fingers crossed.

^Yeah, the look of the movie was perfect, and I still love the ABC Warrior, great stuff.

Is this re-boot actually still happening though?

Lord knows mate. They supposedly had a 'meeting' about it over a week ago.

Yeah, the ABC warrior was great - there's a lot of Hammerstein in that design. And I look at the grubby, old-tech look of those corridors and I can just imagine that looking just like what a Strontium Dog movie would look like too.

Yea visually, Judge Dredd was stunning. This can't be denied.

And to be honest, apart from a few things ie Schneider I thought it was a all round decent movie. Don't really understand the hate it gets. It's a big budget B movie which is perfect for the comics.

But yea I sooooooooo badly want a new one!

I think the problem comes from the fact that it couldve been a much cooler, raw cult sci-fi flick (much like 2000AD is a cooler and raw cult sci-fi mag), as opposed to a watered down Stallone summer actioner.

But it's a catch 22 as without it being a Stallone summer actioner, it probably wouldnt have got the budget to give us such great looking production design and sets.

Oh, by the way:-

Anyone who thought Schneider ruined Dredd has gotta laugh at that fall.

Ahhhhahahahaha! :funny: Full on face plant! Funny ****. And I love how Sly just carried on, went to grab him and drag him away.

The film is flawless on the eye-candy, that's for sure(then again, that is something Hollywood is always good at more than anything, really). The problem is, as John Wagner said, "they made the wrong movie". The producers of the film thought more of doing a conventional action, sci-fi type spectacle ala Star Wars and Demolition Man, when they really should have thought of something more intellectual and thought-provoking like Logan's Run, Blade Runner, Escape From New York, and ofcourse, Robocop.

Man, you've now planted the idea of a Paul Verhoeven helmed 2000AD film in my head. That would be sick as hell.

..yeah, everyone would love that!:yay: Still, there are plenty of potential directors out there fit for the job,i.e, Neil Marshall(The Descent, Dog Soldiers), Michael J. Bassett(Solomon Kane), and Neil Blomkamp(District 9).

You're certainly not wrong.

The funny thing about Marshall is though, the one film of his that is the most like Dredd [Doomsday], I didnt like.

The Descent and Dog Soldiers were great though.

I dislike Marshall. Dog Soliders was to low budget to have anything in it for me to enjoy. The Descent was boring and I fell alseep. And Doomsday was all the boring parts of Escape from New York and The Road Warrior put together.

Michael Bassett seems pretty cool though. I've only seen the trailer for Soloman Kane, but it looks really good.

This is how Dredd should look in the new film:
