Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

it should be done as a prequel to the old one, with Robin William's character as a kid. If not, it won't work. It will fail.

I hope the studio understands this.

So just a movie about the kid being stuck in the jungle?

"Jumanji" Remake Scheduled For Xmas 2016

By Garth Franklin Friday October 23rd 2015 02:50PM
Scott Rosenberg ("Gone In Sixty Seconds," "Con Air," "Beautiful Girls") has just been brought onboard to pen a rewrite of the upcoming "Jumanji" reboot at Sony Pictures.
Said to be more a re-imagination of the original Chris Van Allsburg book than a remake of the classic 1995 family film starring Robin Williams, the story will still deal with the concept of a board game that comes to life.
Matt Tolmach and Bill Teitler are producing the project which is a priority for the studio who wants in cinemas by Christmas Day next year. Jeff Pinkner, who recently worked with Rosenberg on CBS' "Zoo" series," will consult on the script.

Jumanji Remake Finds Its Director http://thr.cm/WeB0QJ

Jake Kasdan has signed on to direct Columbia Pictures’ remake of Jumanji, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

But with the film slated for a release of Dec. 25, the new helmer is going to have to move lightning fast.
The new project is a remake of the 1995 movie that starred Robin Williams and is considered a 1990s gem. The movie adapted Chris Van Allsburg’s Caldecott Medal-winning adventure book and told the story of two kids who let loose a man trapped for decades in a board game. Unfortunately, they also unleash a jungle’s worth of creatures into the world.

The new project is being described as a new take on the book.
Matt Tolmach is producing and shepherding the project. Bill Teitler is also producing. Ted Field and Mike Weber will executive produce. Van Allsburg will also executive produce.
Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner wrote the script, working off of a draft by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Kasdan showed a deft for sweet-natured comedy directing episodes of Freaks and Geeks and comedic fare such as New Girl and the Cameron Diaz-comedy Bad Teacher. He also directed the comedy bomb, Sex Tape.

Only work of his I'm familiar with are his episodes of New Girl. So here's hoping that the cast includes Zooey D, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Damon Wayans Jr or Hannah Simone. :o

Or all. Let's say all.

I've been obsessed with New Girl lately. Great show.

The studio wants this out by December 25, 2016? :funny: Good luck with that. The only way I can see this making it out this Christmas is if it has very few vfx shots or they half ass the whole thing. And half assing this and releasing it against Star Wars Rogue One would be stupid as hell. Why don't they just save themselves the trouble and time and just light their money on fire?

'Jumanji' reboot get new release dates http://bit.ly/1Ox1tGU

With Jake Kasdan recently signing on to direct Sony’s reboot of “Jumanji,” the studio has decided to give the director time to put together the best product by moving back it’s release date from December 25, 2016 to July 28, 2017.

Star Wars will do that to ya. Tom Rothman must actually give a **** now.

Kevin Hart, Dwanye Johnson Circling ‘Jumanji’ Reboot (EXCLUSIVE)
Sony is getting closer to rebooting a Robin Williams classic with two of the busiest actors in town, looking to build on what is already an impressive slate at the studio.

Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are in early talks to star in Sony’s “Jumanji,” sources tell Variety. Schedules are still being worked out, as both actors have heavy production loads ahead, but insiders say things are moving toward a deal.

Johnson has an opening this fall with his New Line pic “Rampage” possibly shifting to 2017. The plan would be to shoot “Jumanji” before the third season of his HBO series “Ballers.” Johnson will also shoot “Fast 8” this summer, reprising his role of Agent Hobbs.

Hart is expected to shoot “The Intouchables” remake for Weinstein this summer opposite Bryan Cranston, and according to sources, working out this part of the schedule could prove difficult.

The pair showed great chemistry after co-hosting the MTV Movie Awards, and with anticipation high for their upcoming New Line action comedy “Central Intelligence,” Sony sees this as the perfect opportunity to pair the two up again for a tentpole.

Jake Kasdan is on board to direct with the pic set to bow on July 28, 2017.

Sony-based Matt Tolmach is producing the project with William Teitler. Ted Field, Mike Weber and Van Allsburg will executive produce. Principal photography is expected to start this August in Honolulu, HI.

The film is a new take on Chris Van Allsburg’s original 1981 adventure book, which was awarded the Caldecott Medal.

The reboot’s script has been written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, based on a draft by the original writers, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

The 1995 “Jumanji” movie starred Williams, Kirsten Dunst, David Alan Grier, Bonnie Hunt, Jonathan Hyde and Bebe Neuwirth. The story centers on a 12-year-old boy who becomes trapped in a board game in 1969 and is released 26 years later.

While the original was heavy on action elements, Williams’ comedic talents helped deliver the light-hearted family adventure pic the studio wanted. Hart has demonstrated his physical comedy abilities in films like “Ride Along.”

Hart has already had a busy 2016 with “Ride Along 2” bringing in $91 million at the domestic box office. His stand-up comedy pic “Kevin Hart: What Now?” bows Oct. 14 and he is also voicing a character in Illumination’s “The Secret Life of Pets.”

Hart is repped by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Schreck Rose Dapello and Adams. Johnson is repped by WME, manager Dany Garcia, and Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown.

Is this going to be a straight comedy then? I can appreciate it being different but Jumanji had surprisingly good ethos for a board game movie that was made in the 90's. It's a surprisingly poignant movie. Williams totally sells it, like usual.

Kevin Hart...nope.

The Rock...damnit Ill have to watch this. Hopefully he can make up for Hart's annoying screechy loud voice and idiotic antics.

This is as odd of news as the 23 Jumpstreet & Men in Black crossover movie lol

Maybe they can combine this and MIB23 and jettison them both off into the black void that is space.

Being truthful, I will see MIB23 lol. I won't go to the theater, but a vide or redbox rental indeed.
