Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

It was an excuse to use the song.

Maybe it's time to change the thread title...?

Looks like a nice Netflix watch.

This looks very cheesy and nothing to do with the Jumanji concept. Can't stand Hart and his comedy.

Remember my suggestion of TLJ crushing this at the box office? Yeah I am definitely backing this up...

Feels more like a ripoff to me than a sequel.

I love movies' attempts to stay hip with kids that are already out of touch by the time the movie enters postproduction. "I can't even," indeed.

This movie looks so generic wow. It looks like they mixed Pixel, Goosebumps, Ghostbusters reboot, Hot tube time machine and grown ups all together. Nothing screams Jumanji in this trailer for me.

What's weird is that this movie sort of shares a title with another Rock movie (The Rundown/Welcome to the Jungle), and looks very similar to yet another Rock movie (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island).

It looks amazing I think they were really clever giving it a modern twist and I think it's going to be fun!

Doubt I'll see it in theaters, but I'd definitely like to see this.

The concept would've probably looked better if it wasn't attached to Jumanji, not that Jumanji is a masterpiece but I'm confused as to why it's a video game now. It reeks of it being the first idea the studio had and ran with it. It's a pass for me unless future trailers and word of mouth sound good.

I gonna admit, the only thing that is really making me want to watch this movie is Karen Gillan. She came from Doctor Who as Amy Pond (I started watching Doctor Who with her and Matt Smith), and I think it's just a matter of time before she becomes a big star in Hollywood. Even though she didn't get to speak much in the trailer, but her presence is definitely undeniable, even in the same scene with The Rock, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart.

Yeah, you need to have a big personality with those three. Hopefully she's not overshadowed because they could probably ad-lib her right out of a scene.

The jokes in the trailer come off as very flat to me. I like the concept of the original where the Jumanji game came to life in the real world. Here they all just get sucked into a video game. I wasn't expecting much from this anyways.

This looks terrible, not to mention there's nothing about it that resembles the original.

Let's not pretend the original movie is some sacred piece of cinema that can't be touched.

I had no interest in this, but I'm a Black fan so it was on my radar. Trailer was better than I expected.

In the first film, I was always wondering what it was like for Williams character, being in the game all that time. This kind of flips that around, whether or not the premise will pay off is still up in the air for me. I'm just glad they didn't pull something like, one of these kids is the kid of one of the kids of the first movie or whatever... though I wouldn't be surprised if something like that actually ends up in the movie as easter-egg...

It's not about what the first film is or isn't, it's about that this film is supposed to be a sequel but actually follows a totally different concept.

They easily could have removed the Jumanji title and it would hardly make any difference. They could have made something like Zathura, where the film follows a similar concept, but is not linked to the Jumanji universe.

.

No, but the original Jumanji has certain charm, originality and atmosphere that is very hard to accomplish. It's a film that has aged very well and it has that "timeless" quality of the adventure films from the 80's.
They could've tried to do something at the same level. This doesn't look like it.

There was a certain heart to that movie that this one doesn't look to have. It's a big problem with films these, there's too much emphasis on 'cool' and not enough on 'heart'. I understand what they've gone for with this film, but it has zero resemblance in anyway to the original. It may as well be a completely original property they are trying to launch.
