Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

The box office for movies like this erode my faith in humanity.

Have you seen the movie? It’s not offensively bad. The leads are enjoyable to watch and have good chemistry. It’s good escapism for two hours for a family movie. There hasn’t been much competition out there for that crowd so I can understand why it’s making bank.

It'll probably be number one until Peter Rabbit hits.

In other words, you want to **** all over something other people enjoy because it isn't to your liking?

Yep. That makes total sense.

Should hear my thoughts regarding Instagram. Gets even better! :o

It's the film studio equivalent of pop music. It raised no bars for the franchise, nor did it capture the fantasy/wonderment of the original. They simply injected it with low hanging fruit sensibilities of millennials.

I for one don't enjoy the pairing of Johnson and Hart (who's act is spent at this point). Really wish Johnson would be more selective with his roles. Studios are like "Here's a big bag of cash and some CGI/mocap. Now go film!" He laughs all the way to the bank.

I am genuinely surprised how well this movie did. I hate on the Rock but props to him for this. Still looks dumb though but I’ll catch it on HBO.

To everyone who hates seeing this perform so well :o :p :D

But more seriously, Jumanji :Welcome to the Jungle is a hoot. Loved every bit of it. I thought this'll do well but did not expect a breakout like this.

Yes it looks like dumb fun with alot of shouting and flailing from Kevin Hart. Box office combo there.

People had more fun laughing at the "Central Intelligence" trailer than "Spectre" when I was at the theater

finally got to see this [huge Rock and Black Fan] and Jack Black made the movie for me he is hilarious in this

Hart well he did his bit as usual but the movie was fun and Nebula was :ilv::ilv::ilv::ilv::ilv:

wished I would have seen this sooner and not seen SWTLJ :csad:

No worries,in 2019, you can skip Episode 9 and watch Jumanji 2 instead, when they do battle again in December of that year.

2nd column: higher is better
3rd column: lower is better

multiplier = gross divided by opening weekend

Updated figures from Box Office Mojo:

$16.4m DOM weekend, new totals:

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $338,057,203
+ Foreign: $484,000,000
Worldwide: $822,057,203

Insane how well this is doing, could well have a shot at $900m

This movie surpassed my expectations. Ni went to see it to a packed theater. Afterwards everyone clapped and my family yelled we want more. We want more and then the entire theater started chanting More MORE MOAR.
Jack and Senior Johnson bring so much joy and life to there films.

Night at the Museum legs (3.55 x 6th weekend) from here on out will get Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle to 396.37 million. Let's assume it'll have a mini collapse (BP takes steam off J2's domestic BO run next month) and achieve a 3.2 multiplier after the 6th weekend. Then it'll finish with 390.5 million.

OS figure is a bit harder to predict but 1.5 times the most recent weekend (China will cease to make a significant contribution) doesn't seem a long shot. So (1.5x17.7) gets the OS total up-to [484+26.5]=510.5 million.

World-wide total becomes [390.5+510.5]=901 million. It still hasn't opened in Japan yet so Jumanji 2 should easily clear 900 million when all is said and done. The movie will release in Japan on April 6th so it's going to be a really long wait.

BTDubz, Jumanji 2 is Sony's 5th biggest movie of all time atm.

SM:H, Spectre & SM-3 are toast as Jumanji 2 is going past 900 million. So #2 (behind Skyfall) in Sony's all time list is guaranteed (domestic and WW). On the international front, Jumanji 2 is likely going to finish at #6 (Skyfall, Spectre, SM-3, SM:H & Da Vinci Code).

I'm totally fine with seeing good fun movies w/ heart making an unexpected amount of money. A movie doesn't have to be mind-blowing or some big anticipated IP to be "worthy" of the big bucks. People go to the movies for escapism, and this was a good escape. It did its job well and now it's rightfully reaping the rewards.

Sony really lucked out with this, but more importantly, it shows the viability of mid-budgeted movies. What's going to help the industry is if more emphasis is placed on these $90-100m movies.

If only more people thought this way, would be wonderful. Sadly a lot of people don't.

Agreed, bit had a chance to see this, and probably won't until it comes out on home video. But so many movies that have ridiculous budgets thrown at them could have been made for half the money and turned a profit instead of flopping. Studio's need to take note
