Jurassic World - Part 10

Oh it got the record now? Awesome!! Wonder what the final gross will look like. I think a good proportion of those who have seen it enjoyed it.

I think domestic will come in under Avengers, but will beat it world wide. Probably 1.6-1.8M WW but $550M domestic. Avengers had no competition against it, JW should hold well but you've got some pretty big films coming out including IN and Out and Minions will be big hits with the family crowd that fueled this film.

Sounds right. The Minions trailer played before JW for me and the audience absolutely loved it. (They also loved the part in the Ant Man trailer where Thomas the Tank engine falls off the train set. That gets them every time. :woot:)

Another uninspiring formulaic garbage from Hollywood breaking records. I guess I'm in the very minority that can't stand Chris Pratt.

I'd be interested to see if raptors are going to go back to being outright villains in future films or if they will continue along this route in any way.

This has to be my worst year ever for box office predictions haha.

I have zero issues with this film making the amounts it has, trully deserved. This is definitely one of those movies that you come out of and get right back in line for another go.

And I thought Age of Ultron would break the record.

Yep, just shows the unpredictable nature of box office. I don't think anyone predicted Avengers to break 200M, and it did, and when AoU didn't break Avengers, I'm sure most of us thought the next possible candidate was Star Wars. This movie was no where on the radar for me, after the two other disappointing Jurassic Park Sequels.

That's how I felt about Mad Max Fury Road.

The thing i feared about the whole "Raptor Squad" idea is them being neutered or made corny. But the film did well to still show them as extremely dangerous. The scene where they turned was fantastically done.

I think my favourite scene in the film was the I-Rex escape. Great build up of tension and genuinely surprising for me.

WTF, the poll for this is closed already? What was it open for, five minutes?

Anyway, I saw this over the weekend and really enjoyed it. It's definitely a movie where you have to turn your brain off A LOT, but it's still a lot of fun. I'm especially happy this is doing so well because of Trevorrow... Safety Not Guaranteed is one of my all-time favorite films and it's great to see him hitting the big time. Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard made for two very likeable leads, D'Nofrio played a good a**hole, Jake Johnson was hilarious as always and BD Wong's character was particularly surprising. The kids and a lot of the other characters were kind of so-so, but serviceable. Not really sure where the story can go from here but I'll definitely be back for a sequel.

Anyone know the book title on Jake Johnson's desk?

The poll was probably created in Part 9 - when old threads get locked and the new parts created, the polls are automatically closed in the new part (if I remember correctly)

I honestly have no interest in seeing this (I never saw the original in theaters, only years later on TV and didn't think much of it when I was young), but you gotta give credit where its due. I would have never guessed this would do this well, but with Ted 2 and Inside Out opening in the next 2 weeks I wonder if it will have legs.

Mind blown.

That's why following the box office is interesting to me.

I share your pain. It was "Transformers" bad for me. I was expecting a disappointment (from all trailers and concept) but i'm still surprised how it bad actually it was. It was like everything i hate in one movie.

Ten points for whoever sees why these two sentences don't go well together.

It doesn't surprise me that Avengers didn't break it's own records. But, I thought the record was safe until Star Wars. I think everyone is shocked at how well Jurassic World is performing. Surprises are fun.
