I'm certain he could. But I suspect he wouldn't be able to replicate Raimi's penchant for quality camp or Webb's affinity for mediocreness.I'm sure Joss Whedon would make a good Spider-Man movie, but still not certain he would make one that's better than Raimi's or Webb's.

^ I cannot disagree more about Webb's TASM. I thought it was an exceptional first entry.
As a whedon fan, i cant help but feel he would make something very similar to asm. He may have perfected the spidey wit and maybe fixed some plotholes. Doesnt mean he wouldve made a perfect movie.
There's been some talk (rumour mostly) about Sony and Marvel/Disney cutting a deal that would allow Spidey to show up in an Avengers film. Of course, I'll only believe it when I see it, but one can certainly hope.
Translation: Now that Joss Whedon is mainstream I'm gonna try to sound cool by pretending he sucks.Oh, please God no.
Joss Wheadons' level of suckage is galactic in scope. Hawking, Einstein and Emmett Brown would be unable to calculate it even if they had Data to help them out.
I'd just as soon not have him anywhere near any Marvel character.
I mean, I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer a few times. I felt brain cells die. And don't get me started on the musical episode. That was a crime against culture.

I love everything that Joss Whedon does even if I don't love it on the first or second watch like Firefly or Dollhouse, by the third or fourth, I love them so much.
What about the conversation between Uncle Ben and Aunt May? The basketball scene? The dinner table scene? Gwen and her father talking about the "chocolate house?" Spider-Man saying, "You found my weakness... its small knives?" Peter giving Aunt May the eggs at the end of the film?Actually, I used a Joss Whedon quote to describe by problem with Webb's movie...
“Make it dark, make it grim, make it tough, but then, for the love of God, tell a joke. ”
I felt like the "comedy" was off and there wasn't enough of it. Stan Lee's cameo was literally the only time that my mom and I laughed aloud.
So one great movie and he is suddenly a messiah?
For me nothing can beat Raimi's SM1 and SM2
