Comics Just read "Maximum Carnage" for the first time...

Yeah this was the beginning of where whiney MJ came into major play among other probles that the fans picked up on over the years though.

I thought MJ was written great during that series. Made sense how she was reacting espeacially considering the scope and severity of the entire situation. Who would want there loved one out there in that kind of warzone?

True, I suppose it worked for the storyline (though I am not a fan of that storyline at all, sensless violence IMO and bland storytelling) but she never got out of that mode unless DeMathis or the Unlimited guy was writing her in the late '90s. She pretty much stayed in that mode and under Mackie became more and more *****y before he killed her off (remember that ****?!) and then after fan *****ing to the inth degree (I almost dropped then and if they kill her again I would drop, if I hadn't already) and then his last effort was to bring her back but make Peter a horny pervert and make her leave him for no apparent reason whatsoever.

That is one of the few things I liked about early JMS is he wrote them both well in working through their issues, having fun and Pete not being a horny bastard the whole time, but I'm going way off topic at this point so I'll stop now.

MAXIMUM CARNAGE - all I remember is lots of death, and no blood.

Also, I think it was partly, no hugely, responsible for the symbiote overexposure syndrome, of which we are still feeling the pain from (TOXIN!).

yeah, that was a high body count for a spider-man title. Shocked the hell outta me at the time. But the world was craving for symbiotes and we got em in spades. It's funny to think it took so many heroes and 12 issuesto beat carnage back in 93 and the sentry made mincemeat of him in like what 3 panels. My how things have changed.

Well the Sentry could have made "mincemeat" out of all 12 heroes and Carnage combined anyway.

Regardless like I said earlier, Carnage should have stayed dead after Maximum Carnage. That really should have been his farewell. The character really got butchered after that and became a complete joke. His introduction story and Maximum Carnage are still 2 of my favorite stories ever though.

Still get chills down my spine seeing Spider-man crawl through that abadoned run down house searching for Carnage just before there first meeting.

i agree, Carnage (much like Venom any more) has been portrayed poorly
the sad part is: the potential is there, but writers can't seem to tap into it anymore

yeah the journey was fantastic cant argue that, good ride from issue 1-13, however.... after that hmmm crap.

There was something really cool at that time about carnage going, oh oh i'm so dead, and then.... BOOM hehe suckers im still alive.

Perhaps but the best stories have great endings....look at the just the most popular comic book stories for the record. AF #15 where Spidey finds out Uncle Ben's killer was the thug he shoulda' stopped, Gwen Stacy died and then GG died, Pheonex had to die, Rhett left Scarlett....okay I'm mixing up genres now but you get the idea though.

I'm sorry, but there's no excuse for that garbage ending. Might as well have the villains fall flat on their backs because the heroes say ''Evil shall not prevail''. Lame !

Actually, I prefer the game to the comic books because in the game, Spider-man has to actually defeat the villains instead of relying on a cheesy Deus Ex Machina.

I started reading Spidey during the Todd McFarlane stuff, specifically, a story involving the Chameleon. She was pretty whiney for the entire 90s. People have told me about how a great character she is, blah blah fishcakes, but after reading 5 years of whiney MJ, that's the characterization I have in my head.

Same here. During the 90's when reading MJ, I'm sitting there saying to myself, even as a teenager, "Why the HELL did you marry him knowing that he was Spider-Man and going to be taking all these risks!"

It got better as time went on and JMS definitely has handled her a lot better. But people always wonder why I want to see her impaled with a goblin glider, and it's all those years and years I sat reading books where she was like, "Oh my God, he's out fighting villains when he should be with me, boo hoo".

Though, in my opinion, I'd much rather be shacked up with MJ in a crappy apartment in Soho than fighting The Lizard for the 1,000th time. t:

I found the ending of MC to be somewhat prophetic. Spidey is thinking to himself how sometimes monsters don't stay away, no matter how many times you beat them, as he is walking past the gravestone of Norman Osborn who makes his reappearence 3 years later.

I just remember remember reading MC and wondering WHY the villains teamed together.

Carnage and Shriek? Sure.

But Doppelganger? Demogoblin? Carrion?

Basically they all just seemed to be walking by and "Hey! we're evil! So are you guys! Lets team up!"
