Justice League Justice League Box Office Prediction - Part 7

I think it's wildly known that I'm a massive DC fan and a fan of the DCEU, and of the output prior to the JL film, and that the JL film for me, is not representative of what I wanted or wished for in it's cinematic form, however, I would support the film for the cast and so that they may continue in their roles. Would I jump with joy that hurrah, it did so badly, no, fans of something don't do that, they support through good and bad. I've supported Liverpool all my life, do I wonder off and support a more successful club as soon as a time comes along that my team fall and are not as successful, no, of course I don't.

I think you'd understand if you had Mike Ashley as chairman and one of a number of incapable managers like we had in the past that sometimes you want your club to lose for its future health. :csad: If Mike Ashley took over at Liverpool, sacked Klopp and installed his mate as new manager you'd probably find it harder to support your club week in week out knowing that every non-loss means they could be hanging around for another decade or so. :(

all the pre-production for JL was done before BvS dropped

I wouldn't call BvS/JL 2 big mistakes, just 1 monstrous mistake

aquaman will have the most post BvS treatment to it (nearly 3 years)

and will be a solo movie which the DCEU has been better at

and a new director with a decent record

there's still hope mayne

I do have hope for the DCeU. I think their timing is off, look at the drought before Aquaman comes out. That's a long time for the DCeU's bad taste of Justice League to linger with the GA. And in that time Black Panther, Infinity War and Deadpool are all happening. They're falling WAY behind. I don't like that huge gap.

On a positive note, Shazam looks promising. The cast looks pumped and I think they're going to have fun with that movie.

If Aquaman can make a nice splash in the box office and do well with the critics, the fans still have Shazam, WM2, Flashpoint and an eventual Batman solo to look forward to. WB still has cards up their sleeves. But man, do they need Aquaman to land.

Conversely, I think that may take some of the sting away instead of jumping right back in the saddle. Plus, their hand was kinda forced here. This year is insanely crowded with superhero and other genre films, so Aquaman was gonna have fierce competition no matter where it ended up. Better odds in December than in some time like May or July.

$60M loss seems like a low bar considering how little JL made plus all the reshoots.

Just kill this connected universe. The whole point of this endeavor was to reap the rewards of all these properties colliding. They mucked it up, so ditch that plan.
They mucked it up, sure. But the MCU proves that it can be done if the right people are in charge (at exec level as well as directors and other creators). DC's underlying characters have at least as much about them so the potential is still there, after they have a period of good quality control. In the short term probably better to stay away from the DCEU concept to let the dust settle a bit and build a better reputation.

Same people are in charge, it makes no difference whether the universe is connected or not, they will make the same mistakes again, connected or not.

Case in point, solo movie franchises that failed to take off like -

Superman Returns (it was supposed to be stand alone franchise for Only Superman movies.)

Green Lantern - bombed and failed to get off, granted it was supposed to be DC's answer to Iron Man and it's attempt at building a larger, connected DC Universe, however if you watch the movie itself, there is no plan in it to connect to other larger DC Universe in it, no Easter eggs. So Green Lantern can also be termed as a failed stand alone movie.

Point is, there's always a chance that DC movie can fail, people who are against Snyder's vision want to see DCEU dead, but it won't solve any problems.

Those fans who hate DCEU can start watching 'Else-world' movies, it's a stand alone movie series. Like Joaquin Phoenix's Joker movie, which has Martin Scorsese as a Producer.

Let general audience decide, whether DCEU lives or dies.

From my view, I thought people were already referring to the DCEU as Else-world movies.

Someone on the DC Cinematic reddit posted that WB was furious with dvd/blu-ray sales and that it didn’t bode well for the dceu...so these numbers confuse me. Just like the backlash against BvS and the stellar home video sales.

Well, it's #1, but that's not necessarily indicate of it doing extremely well. Even the article linked noted that in its second week, Thor: Ragnarok sold 40 percent of what JL did in its big debut. So it could just be that even if it's at #1 currently, the studio was expecting more.

I don't know. Do you have a link to the thread?

EDIT: Yup, here it is.

WB wanted that AV's money and refused to be patient, even tho they were patient for years and did nothing.
Solo's like WW should have been made first. make the audience care about the main characters, then put them all together in one film. who cares if folks say, ''but it's copying Marvel'', what works, works.

Can you imagine a solo Flash or GL film doing as well as WW did, with the same heart.
Or a solo Batman film?

So Black Panther, domestically, made more money than Justice League did worldwide.

Black Panther Domestic Total = $665,355,740
Justice League Worldwide Total = $657,924,295

Did anyone ever think they'd see the day when a Marvel B-Lister like Black Panther would make more money, domestically, than the Justice League worldwide, and double the total box office take?

Why do people keep beating this dead horse? Let it die already. lol

Why? Its a shining example of how a movie with cinematic icons like Batman and Superman got whupped by a movie with a lesser known character like Black Panther. A testament to the severe under performance of the DCEU's stab at their version of The Avengers.

I'm positive there wouldn't be any complaints from the DCEU crowd if the shoe was on the other foot and it was some lesser known DC hero made into a box office hit over heavy Marvel hitters like Spider-Man and Iron Man.

Maybe the audience today or millennials sees Black Panther and his Marvel friends are the A Listers and DC as the B Lister. Maybe Superman and the JL are passé now.

DC NOW are like the Flash Gordon, The Phantom, and Mandrake the Magician to movie goers back when Superman and Batman dominated the industry.
