Justice League: self contained continuity, or epic crossover?

How should WB handle a Justice League movie's continuity?

  • Self-contained universe-- no connections to any other DC movie(s)

  • Single "DC Movie Universe"-- JL is the link between all of DC's movies

My cast for Justice League:

Batman: Christian Bale
Superman: Henry Cavill
Green Lantern: Ryan Reynolds
Wonder Woman: Bridget Regan
The Flash: Scott Porter

You didn't like Brandon Routh?

He was adequate, but I wasn't terribly impressed with him, and I also think it's necessary to re-cast Superman in order to gain distance from Superman Returns (which I did not like). If and when they finally get around to that Superman reboot, my top pick for playing Supes would be Henry Cavill.

Has anyone seen SHH's latest official poll? Needless to say, I'm quite pleased with the results. :D

82% say that they would like for DC's superheroes to make appearances in each others' movies.

I'd rather not see any in Nolan's Batman films. They wouldn't fit so well. GL on the other hand...

GL should introduce Lobo!!!
And I say we get Barry Allen in there instead of Superman. Both of them would be amazing though. Maybe we could have an after credits scene of Flash and Superman recruiting Hal for JLA in the GL movie

personally i said it before the superman cameo is likely not going to be in final film. Personally they should throw in someone else like as u said changeling maybe some other random character who is a supporting character of multiple characters of the dc world. Personally i wouldnt want to put a flash/superman/ww in a gl film right now when we have no clue when/if a film is going to happen for said character.

It all depends on how they do it. I think they shouldn't have an actual costumed superhero making a cameo in Batman 3, but there are plenty of ways they could have a cameo that would be subtle. For example, if they want to have a high profile out-of-state reporter ask someone for a comment, why not use Lois Lane? Or perhaps Lucius Fox could mention Luthor Corp when discussing Wayne Industries' competition? It doesn't have to be something as big as Superman having a walk-on cameo-- it's about suggesting that Batman exists in a bigger world that the other heroes share, and unless you're familiar with those other characters / movies the references / cameos will not seem like anything out of the ordinary anyway.

yea little nods and refrences to characters is what i want. Now things would be different if say ww/flash/aquaman/etc... characters were in actual stages of development with someone signed and ready to play a character. So then maybe a little cameo would work out alot better.

possible if lobo could be in production at any point during gl's film production, or at least maybe have one of the alien gls/guardians mention lobo and/or his race.

It's comic fans, what do you expect? Of course they want the movies to be like the comics with characters popping in and out of each others films.

Honestly, I find those easter eggs mildly fun at best. And often distracting and adding nothing to the story. In general, why do I want to see some other random superhero in a Batman/Superman/Green Lantern/etc. movie?

I just don't see the point. Unless a paralell is being made, say, "Bruce Wayne is the richest man in America next to Lex Luthor", or something along those lines, I don't care for name dropping.

I really don't care one way or another if JL is self contained or a cross over. JL doesn't really require heroes needing to be in each other movies to work.

I think crossover proponents feel that characters who've already had solo films before the JL film will have more depth and the audience will care about them more. Me, I think it's more likely we'll get a JL film with solo films coming out afterwards.

See, that's where I think the proponents are missing the big picture. If the film you're watching doesn't make you care about the characters, it will be a failure no matter how good some other film is. A JLA film that's not self contained in terms of story, themes, etc. simply isn't a good movie. Whether or not it stars some actors that played the characters elsewhere.

The Justice League movie should be self-contained enough that it can stand on its own, but it would be far more rewarding if it could do that along with building on characters who have already achieved solo fame. Getting a movie period is a pipe dream, but I'd rather not have a Justice League movie at all if it can't be done right. The League is not just a team but an All-Star team.

A Flash solo after the team movie might work, if Barry is introduced and killed in the Justice League movie and Wally picks up the legacy at the end of it. Martian Manhunter definately doesn't need a solo (he's a team hero even in the comics). Aquaman would probably have to go team first due to lack of popularity, although he brings a lot of baggage and would be a weird fit (how do you just include him as another hero, when the audience hasn't even been introduced to the concept of Atlantis being real yet?).

But at the very least, I would like to see the Trinity and Green Lantern all get solo movies before Justice League.

I would love to have a Justice League movie with all the same actors, in the same way Marvel plans to do it. Whether it'll happen is unlikely in my opinion. But it would be a dream come true.

OK, this is interesting. People said "How could they possibly do a movie where Chris Nolan's Batman interacts with Superman? It can't be done!" but now, it looks like Chris Nolan may serve as a producer of some capacity on the Superman reboot to ensure that it doesn't suck. So, the man who created the new Batman movie-verse is likely going to be involved with creating the new Superman movie-verse. People are so worried that Superman wouldn't fit in the world that Batman Begins takes place in, but now that the man who created that world may be involved with bringing Superman back to the big screen, who knows what could happen now? Maybe Warner Bros. really is interested in making a larger DC movie universe, and Nolan is going to serve a similar capacity for DC what John Faverue is for Marvel?

OMG!!! *faints from too much AWESOME sauce* :wow::awesome::up::up:

In regards to the possibility of Batman's realism in films to ever might crossover in the future w/ a sci-fi superman, i say it needs the right TRANSITION!

Take note, Batman in his early career does start out ala BB/TDK, stories like The Long Halloween but stories like Matt Wagners' Batman and the Mad Monk and Batman and The Monster Men proves that w/ the right story that can get the right transition from crime drama noir can mix up to w/ horror/supernatural and even sci-fi elements given w/ verisimilitude. Showing the transition from criminals to world-conquering New Gods! :awesome:

I think you'll find it will be more of a consultant type arrangement, I'd say it's more to do with how to resurrect the character than plans for some epic crossover.
