Kanye finally snapped!

Or maybe next time he decides instead to just beat someone up with a few of his friends.

and that escalation would also have repercussions.

Either way the lesson is to not start trouble or you'll end up in prison or a pool of your own blood.

I don't think you're ever going to get it. Violence never solved anything before and it won't now and "taking" a word for yourself is not helping anything either. Perpetuating a stereotype is the last thing you should do if you want to move past it.

What stereotype?

I wouldn't go into a white frat house calling all the members gay and instigating trouble for the same reason most white guys don't go around calling big black guys the N-word. To avoid getting beat up.

Beat downs are an A-hole deterrent whether you guys acknowledge it or not.

While I guess that's always possible, the mere fact that he decided to just stand afar and berate two celebrities means he's probably just a punk with a big mouth who thought he was untouchable due to their fame. From experience, I've had a friend (former) who would talk a bunch of crap to people when he was out and I told him one day someone is going to call him out on his ****. Bigger guy too. One night after egging someone on, they had enough and knocked him silly. These things happen. He wouldn't have gotten his ass kicked if he wasn't opening his big mouth. Same thing goes for this kid. Could the violence be avoided? Of course. After a while, everyone has their breaking point. Every one is shaming Kanye for this but I swear if it was a more likeable celeb you guys wouldn't have a problem with this.

^ That's the kind of argument that belongs at a jurors' table. Cart before the horse.

I think he overreacted but if it wasn't dealing with a famous person and just two guys then no one would have said boo about it. Some guy was causing **** by calling another slurs and he got the **** kicked out of him. Happens all the time.

I understand why he did it but if I were him I wouldn't have.

I think that kid will think before he says something stupid like that to a person again. So yeah, it did solve something.

You sure do assume a lot. More likely this kid learned that provoking people can get you the attention(and probably money) that he wanted in the first place.

He trolled someone and won.

If that's true then why are there still plenty of A-holes around?

This argument will never end, it'll just shift.

You can't go around beating up everyone who offends you. He does NOT get a pass just because it happened to be a racial slur. Our society has laws. And when you break them you pay the price. Unless, of course, you're a rich celebrity. If their roles were reversed, that punk kid would be in jail already.

I don't care what he called him or her, you can't just beat people up like that.

I'd prefer a large group of people from various walks of life gather together and decide laws based on reason. Or else we live in an anarchist society where anyone can be a reactive, emotionally-driven vigilante.

Boom, nailed it.

You're not getting it. He will make money from this. Like Hal_Jordan said, he trolled someone and won. Why wouldn't he do it again? If he knows it's so easy to make Kanye snap, why not push his buttons more and sue him again and again and again?

I can't believe people are actually arguing in defence of Kanye. When you let the trolls win, it's your own fault. If people snapped every time someone shouted a slur at them (racial or otherwise), our society would be in anarchy.

The kid is a punk, no one is denying that, but Kanye is an idiot for going after him. He let the world know exactly what will make him snap, and now he's set himself up for more of this. Had he let it go, the kid's slurs wouldn't have been given any power. If Kanye can't handle the trolls, then he's in the wrong business.

Is calling someone's girlfriend a Ni**er lover really an "easy" way to get someone to snap? I think your lack of compassion for that word and the effect it has on people really shows you're just trying to prove your point and don't want to see anyone else's view.

Now if he said "hey Kanye you bastard!" and he turned around and beat the crap out of him I would understand, that is flying off the handle for almost no reason.

"This guy, Flash Thompson, he probably deserved what happened. But just because you can beat him up doesn't give you the right to. Remember, with great power, comes great responsibility."

I am a black man and I think the way Kanye handled this was wrong. Kanye is a public person with a history of being polarizing and offensive. He'd have a hard time trying to prove he was right in this.

Hmm..I didn't see anybody mention this. That 18 year old probably can't sue Kanye for damages because he might be guilty of the lesser form of a hate crime - Malicious Harassment. Especially if this man yelled the n-word and said that he was going to kill Kanye or Kim. He would be raked over the coals in court. There have been cases, like this one, where people were prosecuted for doing way less.

This of course does not mean that Kanye wouldn't still be guilty of a crime, but I don't think the 18 year old can sue and get lots of money from any judge or jury. People keep saying that he's young and blah, blah. He's 18! And he's still using the n-word! We've gotten to the point in our society where if someone does that, (I'm looking at you Paula Deen) many just judge them as irredeemable.

I think the best advice to take away from this incident are that words only have power if you give them power.
Well the court disagrees. Certain words are more damaging than others and people sue others for words all the time. The best advice would be: use freedom of speech but be prepared to accept the consequences.

I'm white and I've been discriminated against by black ppl. Does that mean I should have a separate set of standards for how I react for white ppl vs black ppl?
I don't understand this analogy but minorities do have a separate set of standards under the law because they are a protected class. Also, a person has to take into consideration white privilege when they talk about white people being discriminated against by black people. That discrimination is different than the other way around for obvious reasons.

Same reason why we still have criminals around when we have the law and the police.Human nature. There will always those who thinks that they can get away with ****.

Man...some of you are giving this kid waaay too much credit. I doubt his line of thinking went further than this at the time: 'uh huh huh uh...i just called Kim an N*** lover and a ****! i'm a total badass yo! uh huh huh huh'

You can't just call people horrible names and expect zero repercussions.

Yeah, most people will turn the other cheek but eventually someone is going to whoop you.

This is real life. Not X-box Live.

The only reason I think Kanye was wrong was because it gives this bigot a lawsuit.

Other than that those who call people the N-word should expect a punch in the face.

It's been that way for decades. Why should we go back to the days where whites could call blacks the N-word without reprisal?

I agree that if someone is gonna say something like this to someone there should be a reprisal...however it doesn't end the power shift and it allows this dumb kid to get over on Kanye but possibly winning a suit against him.
