Superman Returns Kevin Smith's experience with Superman (Returns)

You're joking, right?!? First you think Singer will screw up Superman & now you're defending a guy who don't want to make a Supes movie even thought it is? Boy, your head not really screw on right. And you're wrong: Peters surely would screw up a comic book movie. I bet if they did went ahead with Peters's Superman, you would wish Singer did it instead. Hey, maybe you'll be ok with Superman if Uwe Boll direct it.

His movie WOULD have screwed it up. It didn't.

There is an entire thread filled with it, my friend. What do you want to know specifically?

1. how good does SUperman's costume look in the book,. does it make him look muscular or obvious pading???

2. does Kebin SPacey act good in it

3/does Kal-El make a guest apearance???

Its not defending him...it is clearing up some common misconceptions. Everyone treats him like the anti-Christ, but what did he really do?

Good point! However, the same can be said for Singer. He gets just as much hate from the naysayers and he's also made some good films. He's done nothing to deserve the blacklash he continually gets.

As for Peters...who is to say what's the real story, but one thing I do know is anyone who thinks Nick Cage is the perfect choice for Superman is f-ing delusional. For that reason alone I can't stand the guy.

Singer is current. Him making the movie puts him under scrutiny.

As for Cage, I'll say this...he may not have had the look...but he would have nailed it in terms of acting. Say what you want about his physique...he is helluva talented.

Cage and Burton and peters would have ruined Superman. Plain and simple.

Talented yes, but I'm sure there are other talented actors who would fit the bill more perfectly than he would.

Singer is under scrutiny, but I bring your point up as something to consider in his circumstance. If you can defend Peters surely you can see some of this animosity toward Singer is unfounded?

I don't necessarilly disagree...but I also don't think it would've been Cage or even Peters fault. I think in the end, Burton would've made "Tim Burton's Superman"...and that is what would have ruined it.

Its not unfounded. Peters movie never got made. Singer's is what we are getting...therefore he deserves every bit of scrutiny he gets.

Yes, scrutinize him. However, the man has made several good films, and like you mentioned with Peters if you are going to judge by track record than Singer should be given the benefit of the doubt.

Wow that was actually really funny. I have more respect for Kevin Smith now.

criticizing Singer and defending Peters???

wtf is the world coming to?

I'm not sure if that was for Matt or myself, but as I've said, Peters is a hack who would have ruined Superman. I also believe Singer will not only do justice to Superman, but go far beyond the hype.

i dunno what made ya think it was directed towards you, but rest assured...it wasn't...

...and i totally agree. Peters seems like one of the @$$holes i work for. as far as Singer is concerned...well...i'll just say i'm glad he got the job.

I heard this story straight from Jason Mewes himself. And you havn't even heard what happened after smith left the project and Burtons people stepped in.

Yeah, I've heard of the Burton twists for Superman, and though I think Burton works fine for Batman since he is a kooky and dark director...I shudder to think what would have happened to my beloved MOS if he'd been allowed to take the reins.

The HORROR...

You're missing his point. We know Peters would have ruined Superman, but the fact is that movie was never made as where SR is a month away and that's the only one we can speculate about. Atleast speculation that matters.
But this thread not about Singer's Superman Returns. It is about Kevin Smith's relationship with him on the making of Superman Reborn. It is called "Kevin Smith's experience with Superman (Returns)" Superman Returns has nothing to do with this thread. That is what the movie was called when Singer brought in his storyline, wich has nothing to do with the Smith draft and storyline.

Supposedly, didn't Peters almost get into a fist fight with Brett Ratner, back when he was directing?

Yeah. Ratner wanted an unkown with the last name of Boomer, and Peters wanted a star. Whats his name from the Mummy Movies.

I wonder how Kevin Smith's original Superman Lives story was like before Peters made him butcher it and gave us the crappy script that we can download now. I have a feeling that there was a good movie with Smith's take, only it wasn't realized.
