Kevin Williamson's 'The Following'

I'm loving this show and all the characters. However I hope that the good guys get a win soon. I don't want to get tired of them nearly winning and then a cultist/follower being revealed and the plan messing up so hopefully they will get a win in the next episode or two.

Williamson is a master storyteller. I really could see the end of this season being a game changer that allows the story to continue without feeling like they're stretching anything.

Well, I won't discount the possibility, it's certainly been very strong so far. But still, I really can't see it holding up the quality past 2, maybe 3 seasons. Because honestly, the longer Joe stays out and active, the more and more improbable it becomes that he can evade capture and that his cult is so far-reaching.

I can see Joe getting offed at some point. Purefoy is awesome and all, but for story purposes, it would be one helluva surprise.

Yeah, but at the same time, there really isn't any drive without Joe. This is all an extremely complicated revenge plot basically. And while they could transition it into something else, I'm not sure if I'd want them to, since that's what got me invested in it to begin with.

In general, I think American TV shows have a tendency to run too long anyways. I'd much prefer that this group have an already planned out 2 or 3 seasons and keep it at that. Quality over quantity.

But mostly, like I said before, while this is a great concept, it's not one that I can see sustaining more then 3 seasons (and even then that's a lot) without becoming very contrived.

- That's it for the lawyer huh? Figured there was more to her than just losing fingers.

- Joe wouldn't need to go through all that trouble if he didn't give himself up after killing the one that got away in the first episode.

- Damn that's a lot of people.

Kill him off and have a cult member continue his vision. Thus maintaining the cult aspect of the show.

Just don't do it every year. Otherwise it could get old

Ryan vs Joe is the center of the story so I don't see them killing Joe off.

This show is bonkers, it exists in a fictional world with no attempt at credibility and can't be taken seriously, I think that is the best way too watch it from now on to prevent my eyes from rolling out of my head.

The shot of the woman holding the straight razor and then basically not reacting at all to what she did was just cold-blooded. It's about what you'd expect out of the people that Carroll has recruited.

She reminded me of the psycho chick from Die Hard With A Vengeance.

After seeing that, I just feel like walking around in a full suit of armor. It made my skin crawl to see how easily she did it.

Maybe Tony Stark can help you out. :D

Oh you tart! :oldrazz: The entire concept is Joe has conceived his "literary masterpiece" with him as the lead villain and Ryan as the hero, pulling some limp swerve where Joe gets killed as part of the story (And frames Ryan?) would cheat us of Ryan finally putting that smug bastard in the ground.

Eh, in a sense I agree, but I think they can only go so far with Caroll still alive and kicking.

I think I know where this is going. Ryan is going to cross over to the dark side and become the new Joe. Joe is just preparing him mentally for the change.

The final scene will be like this:

Ryan stands over the battered body of Joe, who is moments from death. Joe grabs Ryan's hand, pulls him in closer and whispers "Now the apprentice has become the master." Joe dies.

Ryan looks to the heavens and screams "Noooooo!" Cut to black. Everyone wins an Emmy.

Not sure if I read someone here make the comparison or if I made it up on my own but I just realized it last night, to me The Following is more or less 24 but with serial killers instead of therapists.

I think you mean terrorists. :oldrazz:

But yeah, more or less. Williamson has said on various occasions what a fan he was of 24, so I think there is alot of influence there.

That's why I'd set a definite 3 season date and tell the story instead of trying to prolong it for the sake of it.

Purefoy was hamming it up with his speech to Bacon with the embellished jestures and waving the gun around

"I've got a gun."

Anyone get the feeling that at the end of the season Joe's son is gonna want to stay with his dad and new family instead of with his mom.
