These legitimate critics, or people who attended a screening?

'Cause if it's the former, I've learned to take those with a grain of salt for the film's overall reception critically.

Oh great, the spoilers are coming.

Welp, time to avoid this thread for the next three weeks.

I don't get it? Can someone please explain to me.

Ready?

last chance to turn back

Characters of “Godzilla,” “King Ghidorah,” “Mothra” and “Rodan” created and owned by Toho Co., Ltd.

So I have, admittedly, not been following development terribly closely. But what I have seen hasn't left me with much confidence. This looks to be a perfectly serviceable kaiju movie. But that isn't what Kong is. Kong has a soul. Largely in part due to his relationship with Ann. He is more intimate (for want of better wording) than a typical kaiju. Mind you, I am not saying Kong has to steal and fall in love with Brie Larson, but there should be something that connects him to the human characters at an emotional level beyond "big monster who we maybe ally with to survive bigger monster." Such characterization makes him feel...lacking. It is like doing Spider-Man without ever mentioning Uncle Ben. It is, as I said previously in this thread, the Phantom of the Opera without Christine. It just feels like a core component is taken away. The trailers and tv spots I have seen have given no indication that Kong is anything more than Godzilla was in the 2014 movie, a force of nature who kind of protects the humans from other monsters. Has there been anything to indicate to those who have followed a bit more closely that such is not the case?

 I know that details on this movie have been kept pretty heavily under wraps, so just a couple screen shots that hint to some intimacy in the relationship between Kong and the humans is enough to give me some confidence. That said, hopefully it is more than the one scene between Godzilla and Aaron Taylor Johnson (which lacked development and was forced).

So..
Ghidorah, Rodan AND Mothra all confirmed for Godzilla 2! Told ya!

Didn't we know that already?

It was more than obvious from the moment they were announced. But many Godzilla fans insisted they wouldn't use all three for G2 & save
Ghidorah for GvKK or something dumb like that

I literally haven't heard or read anyone say that.

I have read people theorizing if Godzilla and Kong would team up to fight another monster, but Ghidorah was never specifically mentioned.

I will say, the hint of the relationship between Kong and the natives sounds interesting. A lot more interesting than hiding behind a wall.

I've seen dozens of fans say it, Go visit the Godzilla.movies.com forums and you'll see what I'm talking about. Either that or people saying
Ghidorah would be saved for G3
which was equally as dumb imo. You don't announce you have the rights to a character, do a promo vid with them and not use them until 8 years later.

Well, obviously they weren't going to wait that long to use them, even if one of them was saved for a later movie.

I think they have given Kong some more depth than just being a giant monster. Apparently he's still only in his teen years of his species during this movie and pretty much lost his parents, hence his desire to protect those that can't.

They also probably haven't announced all the monsters they got. A lot of reliable sources said that Legendary got 5 monsters. We know 4. And given some of the rumors for Godzilla 2, fairly easy to figure out the fifth.

da na da da na batkong!

He's the kaiju Skull Island deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

Then Godzilla later tells him to save Mama Kong.

"Why did you say that name?!"

"....dunno."

Who? Mechagodzilla? I'm kinda hoping it's either Destoroyah or Biollante
