Kong: Skull Island - Part 3

Saw this tonight. I had a good time. Much better than Godzilla.

Was the tone of the film like the first trailer, or the second. Haven't watched the final trailer.

So I just got back from the screening and the one thing I can say right off the bat is that I had an absolute ball with Kong: Skull Island. It is far from a perfect film but it served up what I needed, fun, energy, decent characters (including John C Reilly) awesome creatures and fantastic monster action. The one thing I walked away from this with, is that Kong was truly done justice and ooooh that end credits scene. I can't wait to see it again next Friday in Dolby Atmos. I would give the film an 8/10 rating.

This is the film that Gareth Edward's Godzilla needed to be.

I need to watch it again as soon possible, but for now I can honestly say people who were disappointed with the lack of monster action in Godzilla should definitely be more satisfied with this. It's a really fun ride for the most part and while I wish we got a few more creatures I think general audiences are going to love it. John C. Reilly kills it, but I honestly loved the interactions between Jason Mitchell and Shea Whigham the most. There scenes were the best and those worried about the humor shouldn't panic, because while there are a lot of humorous moments it's very natural and tonally it did remind me of Jurassic Park which is a good thing.

Also, some might disagree with me on this, but I think this was easily one of the better Sam Jackson performances in a film. I don't want to give anything away, but he doesn't just phone it in and he has some great Sam Jackson one-liners.

Oh and that post credit scene was dope.

I think it's safe to say that Sam Jackson was Sam Jackson in this. He was fine and played his part well but I didn't find him reaching very deep to find his character.

You see I totally agree with that and I'm sure most will too, but Sam Jackson being Sam Jackson really worked for me in this, especially the type of character he plays. Sure he wasn't reaching or anything, but he did put more effort into it than what I was expecting.

I think what is confusing is that you said it was one of his best performances in a film. This man has some incredible performances. Some Oscar worthy ones.

How is Kong as a character? Improved over what the 2005 version did?

I wouldn't go as far to say it's his best performance in a film, but I did find his character interesting, because you totally understand his motivation for doing certain things. Like I said it's Sam Jackson being Sam Jackson, but I liked how he was used in this.

While not hard to be better then Godzilla, it does sound encouraging.

Not just better than Godzilla, but Jurassic World too IMO. The characters in this are a lot more fun and I actually cared when they were put in dangerous situations. One thing that really surprised for example is how much I liked Toby Kebbell's character. I've always dug the guy as an actor and his role in this was more heartfelt than I imagined.

Thanks for the spoiler free reviews, DaRkVeNgeanCe & KaijuDude1992.

Glad that both of you loved it. :D :D

I'm glad at the positive reactions. I thought the last two trailers were pretty bad.

You know I actually liked Peter Jackson's version of Kong, but I feel the old school fans will like this Kong way more. He's a badass, but at the same time not just some mindless monster. I guess the best way to describe him is a force of nature a lot like Godzilla, but Kong has much more personality and I love that Jordan Vogt-Roberts seems to really understand him as a character. After this I wouldn't mind if the guy came back for Godzilla vs. Kong, because I'd love to see his interpretation of Godzilla.

Just got back from a screening of Skull Island.
Kong is Awesome!

The trailers were bad, but the movie is great!

Yeah does someone not mind spoiler tagging the post credit scene?

Welp, that's the warning sign for me to stay out of this thread until I watch the movie.

I honestly didn't think I was spoiling anything, but since you guys asked I did my best to tag it. I'll try to be more careful of that in the future, but what about those who already quoted it?

I meant more in the lines of "if I keep posting in this thread while spoilers are flooding in, even while spoiler tagged, I'll eventually give in and read all of them". :funny:

I'll check this out at some point. It can't be any worse than the bore fest that was Godzilla.

I hated Godzilla. This is so much better.

Like DaRkVeNgeanCe said, it's not a perfect film, but I had fun with the characters, fun with the action, and a **** ton of fun with KONG.

Nice to hear you enjoyed it, dude. :)

Did you stay for the end credits?

I didn't. :(

Quoted what? I must have missed it.... I need, NEED spoiler info about the post credits scene. NEED.

NEED.

EDIT: I've seen the leaked after credits scene, so don't worry. My pants..... forgive me.... I was not ready.

Almost my entire screening got up when the credits rolled and had no idea there was an end credits scene. I pretty much squealed like a little schoolgirl when I saw it.
