When the writing team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci was announced, I was worried. I find most of the films that they've been credited as screenwriters for lacking, in large part due to their writing. I was hopeful that TASM2 would be an exception, but now that the film has been released it's been criticized often for poor writing and dialogue.

Personally I find the direction by Webb, the acting by Garfield, Stone, DeHaan, Field, Foxx and company, and quality of visuals all to be top notch. But the writing and editing of TASM2 is disjointed and suffers from tonal problems. I don't know if Kurtzman and Orci deserve all the blame, but I think they are a big part of the problem.

That said, what do you think of Kurtzman and Orci's influence on the TASM franchise? Though it's recently been reported that they will not be writing as a team for films due to other aspirations (directing), I believe their script for TASM3 is being used? And an even bigger concern is Kurtzman is slated to write and direct the Venom standalone movie. Maybe Sony should reconsider? :csad:

agree completly, maybe sony finds someone better for rewrites...

See this is why when Ben Affleck was announced as Batman, I was happy. Man of Steel's story and screenplay was bad because of Goyer. I knew Ben would rewrite it or be involved in rewriting. Now we have Oscar winning writer, Chris Terrio, onboard rewriting Goyer's mess.

It's simple, cast Ben Affleck in TASM3.

I'm not sure how to feel about a Venom standalone without Spider-Man, and without him so much as being introduced in a proper Spider-Man movie in the first place.

Seems like they're just throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks at this point.

Kurtzman and Orci worked on star trek and people seemed to like them, even into darkness was received well except for the hardcore fans who classed it as the worst star trek film ever

and they did transformers and those films have been making big bucks

its obviously sony see a chance to bring them on and create something big like transformers and fill with new life like star trek

overall though they are hit and miss

They seem to be the go-to writers for big event spectacle movies, maybe that's what the TASM2 team was going for by hiring them. But the Transformers movies are only ever complemented for their visuals, for acting and dialogue I think they are derided. The Star Trek films have been better received critically, I wonder how much that has to do with JJ Abrams and the editors. But the ST films haven't made nearly the huge boxoffice Spider-Man films have traditionally. ST1 ($257m dom, $385m ww) ST2 ($229m dom, $467m ww).

I'm most concerned about the Venom spinoff. Kurtzman's worth as a writer can be argued, but I'm not sure his directing ability can be called capable much less proven, and Sony seems to be in a position that they can't afford any more missteps. Why not go with a director who has shown a talent at horror and pleasing audiences?

Wouldn't that be perfect redemption for SM3 if Raimi directed and brought his horror A-game? :woot:

Dude, seriously. That would be epic. Raimi in his genre of horror making a film about Venom...the only downside is that he doesn't like the character.

If Raimi dislikes Venom then he lied during SM3's special features! :o

I don't want Raimi. I want the dude who directed Drag Me To Hell to make Venom. Who was that guy?

Raimi was the one who directed Drag Me To Hell....

Seriously, though, Miles.

Was it intentional? :lmao:

These movies have the right recipe to make a brilliant movie
They have a great cast come on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had ****ing Oscar winners, they have a good director and great visuals the only thing that lacks is the right writers. By the way I loved the film but I still think it should have been better

I'm going to see TASM2 again this weekend to solidify my thoughts, but I completely agree with everything you said.

Batman & Robin had a good director (while Shoemaker made bad Batman films, he ain't a terrible director), Oscar winning writer, Oscar Winning actor George Clooney, Uma who was nominated for an Oscar...

You see where I'm going with this?

When I first saw this film I was so excited I overrated it by giving it a 9.5/10 when in reality I should have rated it a 7 or a 8 out of 10

Who wrote The Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon? Why not ask them to write a Spider-Man film
