The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Kurtzman and Orci influence on TASM

Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman. They've both worked together on X-Men: First Class, X-Men: DOFP and Kick-ass.

Do you believe they'll be able to work on spiderman because I really hope they aren't under contract from fox

IMO, this was the first script of Kurtzman and Orci that was just really lacking. At least with Transformers, you could blame the blatant Bayisms in the film for the lack of quality or in Star Trek into Darkness with Lindelof making things needlessly convoluted like he always does. But this one the script is just lacking. Even with the stuff that Sony wanted put into it to create an expanded universe, they still could have been a better job.

Cowboys & Aliens and The Legend of Zorro were also critical duds, and Bay didn't direct either movie. The only scripts Orci and Kurtzman have written that have been scored as fresh are the Star Trek scripts and Mission Impossible III, all of which involved JJ Abrams. Without Abrams's input, they suck.

They have made some quality TV shows like Sleepy Hollow, Fringe and Alias.

They ought to stick to TV, then.

I never saw those movies so I can't judge. Out of the Kurtzman/Orci written films I have seen, the ones that have sucked really fall on others for blame (i.e. Damon Lindelof in Star Trek into Darkness and Michael Bay for Transformers). Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the first film of theirs that I have seen where I clearly believed that they could have done better.

^Regardless, the only decent scripts they've written have involved JJ Abrams. Rather than handing the blame off to numerous other people, the simplest explanation is that they aren't very good at writing movie scripts unless Abrams is helping them out. They're fine on TV, but there must be something about writing for movies that has them stumped.
