Lady Sif Casting Thread (Jaimie Alexander)

Damn fine girl.

I wonder how they will portray the love triangle between her and Nathalie Portman. I hope they go with Sif in the end.

Nice casting choice for Sif! And kudos to Molossus for scooping it, even if his thread got closed.

Colm Feore is a strong, consistent actor, so whatever role he playing he should bring something good to it.

I think Alexander is an excellent choice for Sif!

Alexander is a very attractive lady and I'm sure Branagh wouldn't hire someone for just looks so it's good news!

Great news, so i guess the main cast is known, can't wait to hear something about the costumes, filming in january etc.

Love the lack of stunt casting so far.

Bed the rest of the cast out with a mixture of good, solid character actors and a couple of well known names and we're golden.

Finally! Something new! Even though I haven't seen this girl act I'm just glad to hear something.

So we now have Portman as Foster and a TV actress as Sif.

Not too hard to figure out which one will get the character development and which one gets to stand around with a sword and look pretty.

Very possible. But it's not that that is a terrible thing. But I hope they give her some room to act.

There's a "TV actor" playing Thor, too. An actor's roots are an actor's roots, they have nothing to do with the role at hand.

Apples and oranges. They have Hemsworth matched with an unknown for Loki.

Honestly can you see them sacrificing Portman screen time to show more of Sif now?

I think Foster will be the bigger character in the film but I think that would be the case even if they had went for a name actress for the Sif role. It doesn't have anything to do with where this particular actress started off.

Alexander definitely looks the part of Sif. She's apparently in an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as well, so a) she's automatically awesome and b) I will have to watch that episode again. :hehe:

I get the feeling Jane will be the "main" love interest and Sif will be cast aside at some point. I can't really fault the movie for it if that's the case, since that's exactly how it went down in the comics as well, but I really prefer Sif over Jane, personally. Hopefully Sif at least has some cool scenes.

I don't think it's anything to worry about. Jane Foster is the love interest, while Sif gets to be a kick-ass warrior woman who joins Thor in battle. Regardless of who was cast in what role, I think this is what we were all expecting as soon as we found out Jane Foster would be in the movie. Hell, I'm just happy Jane Foster didn't REPLACE Sif.

The most logical way I see it working out is that Thor and Sif are either together or have feelings for each other in ye olden times when Thor is Thor, and then Thor loses his memories and is banished to Earth, where he falls in love with Jane. He eventually recovers his powers and memories and there's some nice romantic tension as he's forced to choose between Sif (his past) and Jane (his present). Obviously, he chooses Jane and there is much rejoicing among the Portman fans and much grousing among the Thor/Sif fans.

Unless they pull something really wild out of their hats, I think we'll see some variant of that, more or less.

As long as they don't feel the need to have Sif get offed at the end of the second act to clear the path for a Thor/Jane third act clincher. ;)

Hey Corp how bout a quick title change for the thread? :cwink:

I would hope they wouldn't be too trigger-happy with gods. These are beings that live for millennia while constantly fighting.

I really like the way that all of the Asgardians that have been cast so far are young up-and-comng actors rather than "names". It gives the filmmakers the opportunity to make them seem more "god-like", as the audience will see the character rather than such-and-such actor.

Let us not forget that [BLACKOUT]Balder[/BLACKOUT] got killed off in the first draft. Let's hope that's been amended in redrafts.
