No. Unless you are defining the term "red herring" differently than I do.

In the events of Superman, it would be to take away from the innevitability of Lois and Clark. However Clarks live pre- tights and metropolis, his love with Lana isn't as much as a distraction. It's more like a highlight.

Think about it like his powers. It's all a learning experience.

Clarks expereinces with Lana only will teach him, that lieing to people you claim to love, will only lead to sadness. besides smallville somewhat takes clark kent and Lang Langs relaitonship way to far. In the comic and every other version, Clark and Lana dated in highschool, and clark told her abut his powers after they graduated form school [post crisis]. In the silver-age Lana was not interested in Clark at all, but had a thing for super-boy [sound famliar]. Smallville takes what should of been a highschool crush/relationship and turns into this long drawn out soap opera. Smallville makes it impossible for us to beleive clark kent will love anyone else ever, as he is completly infatuated with Lana Lang.

But since the end of season five and so far all of season six Clark hasn't shown any signs that he still is interested in Lana romantically.

Yes he has he just respects Lana's wishes which I like because whenever he is around her you can see he wants to say more then what he says but doesn't.

and taking into consideration the headaches that Lana was suffering from when she first found out she was pregnant. Could MM have something to do with this? Is he capable of messing with her mind like that? Some sort of test as to where her loyalties lie or her strength of character.

Probably not, but I thought I'd throw the idea out there.

Whether she loses it or keeps it, she's always going to have this connection to Lex because of it. Assuming that Lana will end up like comic Lana and be a good friend to Clark in the future, this little scenario just seems wrong.

The end of Season 5, Season 6 that is played down some, making the situation better.
