I think it still speaks to the original palette's divisiveness when most people didn't even notice, as they genuinely did remember it in a particular way.

Not sure why VideoLabs did what they did, as I'm fairly certain they could've driven the same points home without any alterations at all.

It will be ridiculous either way. I would ask why didn't they do it? Why? I think they obscured it because if they have compared it with original pics and his "work" it would be really even more ridiculous and what will it prove? that really wasn't as some people make it to look like.
You can like it or not. But pretending to know more than the an expert with those arguments is really lameee.
