BvS Larry Fong is the cinematographer!

"What would Schindler's List look like if it were in color"

Get on that, Spielberg!!! :o

Art is art is art...

Some people have way too much time on their hands.

Exactly what they showed. The title of their video is "What if Man of Steel had color?" They claimed the original footage was a certain way and they lied about it. It had color and it had more color than they claimed. They also said they were "restoring the natural colors" and their results did not look natural.

I think you're looking into the title way too much. Of course the film had color. Just a drab and dull one. The main take away from it all is that the makers of the video didn't like MOS's look and felt it could be more colorful/vibrant/whatever.

As I pointed out earlier in the thread, the video says nothing new. Some people expressed dislike of the look of MOS, even those who liked the film overall. Same complaints happened with SR before that. There are videos on YouTube too where people played around with SR's look.

All of this is kinda moot anyway since BvS also shows what probably would've happened had Fong worked on MOS.

THIS. And this is from a guy who used VLC's saturation settings to make Supes a little brighter.

I think you're excusing bad/false arguments because you agree with the conclusions. I didn't completely like the color filters of MoS, but I don't have to lie about how it actually was nor do I have to exaggerate to express that opinion.

No, I'm not. Someone posted a screencap of the "real" look of MOS. There's a slight difference, but it still looks dull to me.

The reaction to this video reminds me of when people didn't like that MOS was described as being "joyless" and would post the clip of Clark flying while smiling.

It really is, isn't it?

At the end of the day, some people just feel that MOS would've looked a little better with some more color. It's no different than what some people have said about SR and MOS in the past. It's no different from comparing MOS to the what BvS seemingly will look like...

Just looking better wasnt what Zack Snyder was going for.

If I were painting a kitchen my selection of appropriate colors and tints would be limited. Just painting it any vibrant color would be a mistake. A colorful Man of Steel would have felt awkward

I know what he was going for. He said it was the most real-looking film he's made. BvS is selling itself as being darker than the "Hope" approach MOS's marketing took and yet it looks more colorful to me.

I think the reason for more color in BvS is to help contrast Superman's color and Batman's darkness, to show how different they really are, which wasnt needed in Man of Steel. I could be completely wrong, but I doubt the change was made because they thought the color in Man of Steel was a mistake.

Batman probably knows the sun helps Superman recharge, so wants to keep the fight at night

I don't understand how one could come to that conclusion.

I honestly think almost the entirety of the criticisms directed towards Man Of Steel's colors are because of the Superman suit. People see the mostly muted colors of his suit and because it is darker than their preferred version of Superman (Christopher Reeve, comics, cartoons, etc.) they see the entire movie as dark.

Nevermind that the colors of the suit are a deliberate artistic choice. His suit is an ancient relic (literally and figuratively) of a once proud but now dying civilization worn by a person who, despite his gifts, is unsure of himself and reluctant to come into the spotlight. A costume with subdued colors that, when seen in a different light, can appear much brighter than it usually does? Why, that makes perfect sense for the story they were telling. Imagine that!

Add in the scenes set at sunrise or sunset (a recurring motif), an overcast Alaskan fishing town, and in the frozen north and you get more "colorless" scenes that are representative of the movies themes and the main character's inner feelings.

Man of Steel might not be quite as colorful as some people wish it to be, but it certainly isn't colorless and the look of the film is perfectly suited to the story being told. If people don't like the story, that's fine, but lazily (and dishonestly in the case of that video) throwing around the words "colorless" or "dark" is getting tiresome.

BvS does look different, which is to be expected of a new cinematographer with a different story to tell.

Jeez. Either Chris Meloni got sunburned or he's about to have a catastrophic heart attack.

Snyder makes over saturated music videos and some people complain about his visuals, he makes something that looks like mos and other people complain about that look. You can't please everyone and there's no point trying. Just produce something you yourself feel is great and the fans you make from that validate the artworks existence.

Still think this color thing is getting out of hand. Who know Bay's movies looked that much better than Fincher's in this regard.

What works for comics, the 70's and animation, doesn't always fit into liveaction, specially in this new era of movies. That's something some people doesn't understand.

This is so true. Thanks for the reminder :highfive:

So true. It's amusing how people contradict themselves sometimes. And yeah some just complain for the sake of it, they need to find it, if not they aren't pleased. Even if it doesn't make sense... at all.

This is all partisan politics bs. No one is interested in learning the truth. As evidenced by the fraudulent fabrication of their 'original' image. Funnier still, Age of Ultron is also heavily filtered, not unlike Man of Steel. Yet nobody harps about that.

Agreed.

Politics is an art about giving things a spin in the direction you want to and stating it as the truth, even if the real truth points in opposite direction.

Same thing applies for self-styled comic book experts on the net. :o

And plus, whatever issues that people had with MOS's color palette, I don't know why people are bringing it up Fong. The dude didn't even work on the film.

Not to mention the fact that regardless of all of that, the footage that we've seen from the BvS teaser has shown that they aren't going in that same route.

What bothered me is the fact that they shows a pic of Cavill as Superman for comparison on the set of BvS (whose suit colors are more brighter as compared to his MOS suit)

Remember that picture I posted earlier? Well this is the original.:o

And this is the restored version.:o

And what's with the perpetual myth that TDK trilogy looks like MOS? Or that it's desaturated for that matter? Both false.
