The Dark Knight Ledger's 'possible' nomination clip...

Which Joker scene should be played in a possible posthumous nomination for Ledger?

  • The "Why So Serious" speech...

  • Arriving at the party and threatening the guests...

  • Walking around Rachel/Scarred wife story...

  • Interrogation scene: "They're only as good as the world allows them to be"...

  • Sitting in the interrogation room floor: "You can't savour all the... little emotions."...

  • The "This City deserves a better class of criminal" scene...

  • Conversation with Dent: "You know the thing about chaos... it's fair."...

  • His final speech while he's hanging up: "Madness, as you know, is like gravity..."

  • Other...

I like the "You can't savor all the...little emotions..." line the more I watch it.

I would vote for:

"Harvey, Harvey, Harvey Dent. Ohh, excuse me, I want to drive!"

I've actually been thinking about this too. My guess would be the WSS scene. It's the one most people remember.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. For me, the perfect clip would be "You can't savour all the...little emotions" scene. Just great writing and perfect acting from Heath.

It's probably gonna be a clip from when he harasses Rachel with the blade and the origin story.

I think the one that should be used is the interrogation scene when Batman is punching joker.

Joker: Killing is making a choice
batman: (puches) where are they?
Joker: Choose between one life or the other, your friend the district attroney or his blushing bride to be
batman: (puches again)
Joker (laughs) You have nothing to threaten me with, nothing to do with all your strength
(batman lifts him up)
Joker: Don't worry, I'm gonna tell you where they are, and thats the point, you'll have to choose.

I would hate for the clip to be the party crash or the burning money scene...I swear I saw those scenes or heard the lines from them in almost every trailer and tv spot...!

I think his dialogue with Eckhardt in the hospital scene was amongst the best delivered in the movie (though, for me, it was surpassed by the final scene with Bale, Eckhardt and especially Oldman), and it rates as quite an original sequence and a good use- as well as a showcase- for the character.

Exactly. I think it shows how demented the Joker is and how deep into the character Heath got. The way he acted this scene is flawless. I love it more and more.

Had to go for the wife/scars story, even though not my fave.

Just too much to choose from......and that's the pooint...you'll have to chooose.

The question is, how long usually is a clip? 20 seconds? 15 seconds? From my recollection, the clips they show for each actor is not very long, so we have to choose something that fits the timeframe, which is probably 10-15 seconds. Someone should go check youtube if there's any video of past nomination clip, to check the duration.
thats what i've been saying, not only is the clip really short (i dont think it lasts more than 15 seconds), but it also has to focus as much as possible on the nominee, having another actor interspersed with his performance looses the focus on him. thats why as much as i like the earlier interrogation scene with Batman tossing Joker around the clip has to be about Ledger's performance and why he deserves the Oscar. of all the notable scenes in the film, there is but a few that fits the requirements: the Why So Serious speech, the speech with Rachel and the "You cant Savor the Little Emotions" interrogation monologue.

great thread btw...I've actually wondered the same thing.

I say the interrogation scene starting with "to them, you're just a freak like me" to "these civilized people, they'll eat each other."

A powerful bit of dialog, IMO. Golden Globe nominations are first right? Guess that'll give us a good idea of Heath's potential for Oscar recognition.

Could be anywhere between 20-30 seconds, the scene I could see being used is the scene with the money on fire and Joker saying (and I'm paraphrasing here) 'Tell you're men they're working for me now' and 'why don't we cut you up and feed you to your pooches, then we'll see how loyal a hungry dog is', and 'It's about sending a message'.

I think any clip would probably work since we're no doubt talking about one of the greatest cinematic villain of all time. I wouldn't mind seeing interrogation room, nurse or upside down Joker though.

Either the "You wanna know why I use knives..." speech, or his hospital speech with Harvey. I think they best display his range, and the speeches themselves are rather deep, which seems like something the Academy would go for.

Good thread, I think the scene where he tells the guard why he uses a knife would be the best, if not the other interrogation speech.
