Left 4 Dead

If it isn't, I think I'll probably just blow it off and wait for the mod community to come up with their own new content. You can always count on PC modders to put out tons of interesting, if not necessarily great, stuff.

I've already seen mods here and there, the coolest one being the Dawn of the Dead shopping mall.

That's one thing that gives this game the edge on PC over home console. You can bet your ass that if they release DLC on the consoles we'll be paying for it, but on PC it'll be free.

There's the snipped down extract from the podcast for those who can't be bothered watching the link.

"Kotaku has posted a podcast with Chet Faliszek, taped a couple weeks ago, where Chet said Valve would be announcing their plans for DLC shortly.

He mentions it twice in the 21 minute podcast, the first is near the beginning and he says: "So one of the things we're going to be announcing really shortly is some DLC on the PC and the 360. We'll be having both the Versus maps and some new stuff coming out."

And the next time is near the end: "If it wasn't the holidays and people weren't taking all these vacations here at Valve, you'd have seen that announcement already. We should be announcing that before Christmas - what the DLC is. The holidays aren't so much delaying it.. the press guys.. Doug has been taking some time. We'll have an announcement shortly, I don't know exactly when. We've got the DLC coming. We're going to do the 360 at the same time as the PC, and then we also have on the PC side the SDK coming out."

It looks like we'll have Dead Air and Death Toll on Versus mode and maybe some new maps. The rest of the podcast talks mainly about the story of Left 4 Dead and the way the story is told and how much Chet likes working at Valve. Go listen."

This was on left4dead411.com also, somebody made a Gabe Newell boomer skin.

I wonder how many more times we'll get someone from Valve announcing that DLC will soon be announced...

TF2's a great game and all, but it has no bearing on this runaround we're getting with L4D. Just give us a concrete announcement on what it actually is or shut up already.

Aside from making the other two campaigns playable in VS I hope they make the smokers smoke abit more effective at the moment it's kind of useless.

I hope they find a better way to handle damage with the Tank. Right now (according to my friend, who's much more into this sort of stuff than I am), the Tank has two methods of dying: a time meter for fire damage and a health bar for damage from guns. That means if you molotov a Tank and stick around to shoot it, you're literally not doing anything worthwhile because the Tank would die anyway after the time meter runs down once it's lit on fire. The damage doesn't stack. Supposedly, Valve made it that way because if they just jacked up its health meter so it was still challenging even if it's on fire, it would be damn near unstoppable at higher levels and the only way to kill it would be to molotov it and shoot it to hell. But it seems like there'd have to be some better way to handle it so that one method of killing the Tank isn't rendered totally useless. I don't know what it is, but then, I'm not a dev for one of the best video game developers in the world.

I'm seriously thinking about getting this game but i get the weirdest feeling that it might get old really fast.
Fair point? Or should i get it?

It stays pretty fresh. The maps do become a bit too familiar, to the point that you know exactly where to go to have the best chance of surviving something, which takes away from the frantic fear element, but the AI Director changes things up enough each time that it makes it feel like anything could happen each time you play.

even though I know where to go and what to do, it can still kick my butt if the team isn't doing well, and that goes triple in versus mode.

I think the tank might have been nerfed abit in VS mode, can take a good 3-4 hits before going down.

Even then when human players are controlling the infected there seems to be a pretty big jump in difficulty, if they aren't noobs just jumping you on the first opportunity possible they tend to wait for a seperation, rush or the boomer to blow up making it pretty easy at times for your party to just be wiped out.

One of the major problems i have with this game is the constant team switching during a game. How can this be friends friendly if they keep getting switched...i think it is a server setting option, but they need to cut that out in the next patch...when you get switched to the other team they usually vote kick you ...it's crap....they need to fix that ASAP. Minor fixes to the smoker and the tank...other than that the team switching has to go.

to anyone wondering about whether or not to get this game, i say go for it. if you can find a good deal on it, then its a definite buy. i tried the demo on 360 and wasnt too enthralled, but i recently picked this up on PC and i can't stop playing. it really is a load of fun and it doesnt get old fast. of course it is built for multiplayer, specifically online, so keep that in mind. but once you jump in to a game of versus, i dont think you will get bored any time soon.

I actually don't like versus too much. I've only played it a couple times, though.

Team Fortress 2 has had frequent updates every 1-3 months.

Only for PC.

Being a console gamer, my biggest beef with Valve is their lack of care for the console releases. I understand they've always been a PC-based game developer primarily, but still. We still haven't got the Orange Box DLC on 360 that PC users got for free ages ago.

And I still hate that PC users will get all the crap for L4D for free and 360 users will have to pay for it. Curses.

Think of it this way: console gamers get treated better for 99% of all the other games out there. :)

Dono what the deal is behind that but they promised better support with left4dead, as the article says it is coming at the same time. If you have to pay i'll bet it will be down to Microsoft then Valve.

I think the developers determine the charges. Otherwise, Microsoft would've probably stepped in and charged for all the free content other devs have put out, like the bikes in Burnout: Paradise.

If Valve's calling the shots, definitely. They are friends to gamers everywhere. :)
