Les Miserables: Even the thread will make you cry

I'm not sure if Anne's "new" voice is better or not... even if it's not better, I still like it. I liked the "new" trailer, especially that we saw Samantha in the "heart full of love" (I've thought for ages how would they do that scene; now I finnally know...)

This youtube comment might make some sense:

But Anne said Tom went with her "second take" ... and it still feels like post-production to me. Dunno. They might even choose neither of the two versions for the final cut. But the first teaser was certainly more raw and real...

I think the new scenes in the trailer include Javert's suicide (where his face is covered with sweat...) and Javert just after the first song, "look down", observing how Valjean leaves the prison (well, that is a rough guess). I even imagine how he sings, "Do not forget me, 24601" up there on a hill....
What we see on screen will even sound more different since we read orchestrations won't be added until Oct. 10 (unless that has changed). And I'm not sure that's Javert's suicide - it looks like he's in the same outfit he was wearing when we saw all the dead National Guard soldiers so it might be after that.

The only difference I hear in Anne's voice is that the first trailer was a raw vocal, and this new version is not.

People didn't actually think that just because they're singing live that there wouldn't be any work done on the vocals, did they?

Exactly. Not sure why anyone is shocked.

The benefits of singing live was so they can act the roles and not have to lip.

And that's already been done. But they're still going to edit the vocals as if they were sung in a studio. Look at Across the Universe!

EDIT: Also, Anne's voice sounds absolutely GORGEOUS in the "new" trailer, so I don't care.

They def. cleaned the audio (which is great) and added some reverb... it's kind of hard to predict because we wouldn't know the exact context of the scene, but I just feel it's a little over-edited in certain parts.

I thought it was cool how Cosette turned into the Les Mis logo at the end.

I am not liking the post production work they've done to Anne's voice... frankly, it removes some of the raw emotions that were in the first theatrical teaser.

It was making too many people cry, that's why they changed it.

Frankly, I was so terrified by the emotional impact of merely the trailer that I was thinking about skipping this movie altogether and spending next Christmas watching Valley Of The Dolls on a continuous loop until my brain melted.

Or they just did what they were always going to do.

There isn't a single song/movie musical in the world that simply uses raw untouched vocals and Les Miz was never going to be the first.

But if it had been the first, at least at certain points in the song, people might've applauded it. If someone does a scene of acting, you don't go and change it so that it takes away the emotion.

The emotion is still there. It's just that now, the grating parts are gone. Having a bum note doesn't somehow mean you're showing emotion.

No complaints here, I"ve been waiting almost 20 years for the play to be turned into a movie!

anne's version of "IDAD" sounds more beautiful everytime i hear it
really can't wait for the soundtrack to come out

Nope it's not the musical, damn good movie though!
Half the story is missing though. I saw the 1952 movie with Michael Rennie the other day and it ended in the same spot. Also the movie with Frederic March from the 30s.

Poor Selina... forced into prostitution like that. :csad: A girl's gotta eat.

Is there any word when the soundtrack is coming out? Assuming it comes out before the movie is released, I'm going to hold off on getting it until after I see the movie.

I didn't mind the fixes in Anne's voice. It was expected. It's great seeing more shots of Eponine as well.

Nope, but I'm wondering if there's going to be one. Way back when Crowe was asked that question in a tweet, and he responded something like "I don't understand your question, the movie IS the soundtrack."

got the original broadway cast soundtrack today, loving it so far :)
