Les Miserables: One Thread More!

My theater had sound problems, at least the music seemed very soft for most of it. I expected the music to be huge but it really wasn't.

I'm pretty sure it's the sound of the movie itself, because in my theater the instrumental music was pretty low I felt.

I've seen the movie in a Regal theater three times and I thought it was fine.

Had a sound problem today. But the first and second times had gorgeous sound.

The Sad Off is great!! I'd love to se that as a DVD extra, maybe an Easter egg or something.

And Cameron Mackintosh is very canny, he knew that a successful movie would only spur greater ticket sales for the live show and greater demand and popularity for the show in general. Not only is the movie soundtrack #1 on Amazon.com right now but there are five other various LM cast albums and recordings on the Amazon Top 100 charts as well.

They would have to get legal permission from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's production company and Gary Sanchez Productions who own Funny or Die.

Samantha Barks is a real talent. I hope to see her in more movies after this.

Thank you, Tom Hooper, for discovering her.

He didn't really discover her, considering she's played Eponine onstage as well... But he did bring her to the attention of a broader audience.

Samantha did a good job, but there isn't the same buzz around her that there was when Emmy Rossum starred in Phantom. Part of the reason is that Anne Hathaway is so stunningly good in Les Miz it overshadows everyone else, especially the other female lead role.

I agree that she isn't getting the Jennifer Hudson or Emmy Rossum buzz, because Anne Hathaway has taken away the spotlight from everyone. Even Hugh Jackman and Eddie Redmayne are kind overlooked by that. However, I think Barks was phenomenal and obviously got the attention of younger viewers who can relate to Eponine so well. If her agent does not screw her over like Rossum, she should be setting out on a fine career after this movie.

Though yes, I do think her turn as Eponine will be more memorable than at least two of the actresses nominated in a few days.

My theater had sound problems too when I saw it. The sound cut out completely during "Do You Hear The People Sing?". It was hilarious in an ironic sort of way. :funny: They rewound the film to the end of "One Day More" after they fixed it, so no harm done.

You should have shouted out, "No we don't!"

Only a few days to Oscar nominations .... I discovered my biggest wish is not Les Mis winning Best Picture (that would be great, obviously!) but Samantha getting a nomination. Please please please .... has there been a year when one movie gets two nominations in one category?

Anne Hathaway has won TWENTY awards already for her work in this movie, six are still pending and I guess many haven't yet been announced (such as Oscars!) ... this is crazy ... bad news is that DDL has even two more awards than Hathaway, and Hugh has none ... damn it, at least Hathaway should kick DDL's ****

I'd love for Hugh to have a chance at an Oscar but I'm really not seeing it at this point. He might get nominated but DDL has had the award locked down since November. And if for some reason the Academy voters don't give it to DDL, it'll go to Bradley Cooper who's been getting raves for Silver Linings Playbook. Those are safe, respectable choices and ones I can easily see the Academy making. Hugh was great but he doesn't have the support they do. His best bet now is a Golden Globe.

As for Samantha, I liked her but I didn't think she did anything spectacular with the role. She was just like every other Eponine I've ever seen. She was good but not strong enough for an Oscar nod. Maybe later in her career...

I still think the only award LM will win will probably be Anne's and maybe a few sound awards for the live singing.

I'm hoping the Academy doesn't want to give DDL a third Oscar, that would make him the only actor to win three Best Actor Oscars. And I don't get the Cooper thing, except it's HARVEY WEINSTEIN. Gold Derby still has Hugh listed behind DDL so I'm hold on to that LOL. Plus, it's different people voting. DDL has won all the critic awards. The Oscars are voted on by the Guilds so perhaps there's a better shot (yeah, ok....).

Meanwhile, DVR alert - the Critics Choice Awards air on Thursday - Cooper is nominated in TWO categories (as is Anne)!!!

DDL gave a great performance as arguably the most famous man in US history, I can't see anyone beating that.

Neither can I, but if, by some miracle, Hugh managed to win the thing...it would be very awesome. :woot:

Honestly, I'll be thrilled if he's nominated.

I finally saw it. I enjoyed it. Dragged a bit after Javert's suicide, but it was an enjoyable few hours. The inn keepers steal the show completely and totally though.

I actually didn't mind Russell Crowe's singing. I felt it was bad when he was doing the sung dialogue, which just kinda felt like him yelling or talking loudly with melody. But I thought he was quite good when he did his solo after Val Jean escapes into Paris and his suicide song. Of course, I don't know much about music so I might just be that ignorant of the topic that it sounds good to me. :funny:

Anne Hathaway was just on the Daily Show. Interview was hilarious, she told this story about falling down while shooting the finale, it was hysterical. :funny:

Personally I find the idea of having two nominations for the same performance incredibly stupid and unfair.

I always thought Hugh had the Golden Globe win in the bag, but now with all this Bradley Cooper stuff (they're in the same category) I'm starting to have some doubts. Harvey Weinstein is behind Cooper/Silver Linings Playbook and he's notorious for getting his movies/actors noticed/wins.

^^^That's what I'm thinking, too. It won't surprise me if SLP wins big at the GG and LM gets nothing but Anne's BSA trophy. I'd love to be wrong, but we'll just have to see...

It was indeed hilarious, especially the way she explained it. :funny:
