Les Miserables: One Thread More!

Yeah, so I'm at Target at 8am to get my blu-ray. Not that I'm obsessed or anything. :oldrazz:

Just finished watching it. Going by the level of ugly-cry in my living room right now, I can confirm that it hasn't lost a thing on blu-ray.

:hehe: good to know. I need to get this blu-ray. I was holding off to see if they release a collectors edition, but i dont think i can wait that long. Between this one and The Impossible, i'm gonna end up emotionally beaten and exceed your level of ugly-cry watching the blu-rays :oldrazz:

I'm expecting mine any day. Someone at broadwayworld.com mentioned that in Hooper's commentary, he said
Samantha/Eponine was at JVJ's death scene but she was digitally removed since Hooper realized JVJ didn't know her. Some of us know that Sam filmed this scene since she reported being "ethereal."
Also, anyone who got the deluxe CD, did you notice in the final barricade pullout Marius and Cosette are there? That coincides with the ending of the script but I didn't see them in the final cut.

Isn't there a directors cut of the movie coming out? because if there is I just might wait to get that instead.

Got the steel book at best buy. :D

I understand that there will not be a director's cut because Tom Hooper is considering this for sometime in the future - maybe even as a cinema release. I don't think there will even be deleted scenes on the DVD.

The DVD is not out in Australia until next month, so I have to wait a little longer.

No, there wasn't any time to put any deleted scenes back in by the time this version was released, there aren't any included on the special features, although the behind-the-scenes stuff is really good.

Russell Crowe on Twitter today:

#LesMis dvd tomorrow,USA. Some scenes have changed. Javerts jump turns into a triple somersault with a pike and gets a 9.2 from Cossette

:funny:

Just finished watching the extra DVD with the Target edition. There's some really good stuff on there - we finally get to see some interviews with Aaron Tveit (who's not on any of the blu-ray extra features), and they talk a little with Daniel Huttlestone (Gavroche), and they show some fun behind-the-scenes stuff with the barricade boys. During the scene when they were all lying on the floor after the barricade fell, they were all doing an acapella version of "Bring Him Home" in between takes. :funny:

They also show a lot of footage of Hugh doing his workout. He actually did his vocal exercises while he was lifting weights.

And when they shot "Lovely Ladies", there were real gutted fish on the set, which smelled as bad as that sounds after the first day. Anne mentions that she still has no idea why they thought they needed real fish.

It was cool. I'm glad I ran out of the house first thing this morning to pick up that version now.

Spoiler about Hooper's commentary:

I'm surprised that it took all the way until after they went to the trouble of filming Eponine at the death scene before Hooper realized Valjean didn't know her. You'd think he would have noticed that long before then!

nite-owl and CGHulk,

You might have to wait quite a while for the 'Director's Cut,' Tom Hooper is saving the footage for that for a future possible (?) cinema release.

Just watched it again. Was it just me, or is the infamous "THWACK!" sound effect that happens after Javert's jump isn't as loud as it was before? It sounds kind of drowned out by the orchestra and it's not as obnoxiously loud and cartoonish anymore. I wonder if they tweaked it a bit for the Blu-ray.

I haven't seen the Blu-Ray yet, but that wouldn't surprise me. That particular sound effect was almost universally panned as being too loud, overdone and unnecessary.

Have you guys seen this gem?

Just finished watching all the extras, tomorrow I'll watch the movie with the commentary on.

I LOVE DVD extras. I still love those barricade boys LOL - I thought it was a riot when they were singing "Bring Him Home" when they were about to play dead. And for those that followed when they were filming and remember the game they made up called "coups" during their waiting time, part of it is on the DVD LOL.

All I have left to watch is the commentary, which I'll catch up to this week. Although I wish I'd watched that tonight instead of Rock of Ages on HBO, because...yikes.

Those DVD extras are awesome.

My mom got her blu-ray yesterday too. She sent me a sobbing text when she finished watching it. :funny:

I loved the show on Broadway. The movie was a mess. They even screwed up the music, it all sounded like Glee Sings the 80s. Tom Cruise had some funny moments, but they just took everything that made the show so much fun and tossed it for just a bad movie.
