I think the overall general consensus from the comments and the poll was that this film was about an 8 give or take. What do you think if anything would have made this film a 9 or 10 for you guys?
For me personally, the story itself just isn't one of my favorites. I'm more of a fan of the X-Men as a group, rather than individuals, and Logan's Japan saga isn't particularly one of my personal favorites.
That's not a knock on the story, it's a good story that I enjoy, it just doesn't have the same appeal to me.
So the fact that 1.) this was a Wolverine solo movie and 2.) it's a story that I don't have any particular personal attachment to is really the biggest knocks I have against this film.
While this film is clearly a better made film than X-Men Origins: Wolverine (as much as I love that film), the Origins film has the appeal to me of being just as much an X-Men prequel film as it is a Wolverine prequel film, it tells a story that I have a much more personal attachment to (Logan's origins with Weapon X), and includes a lot of beloved characters like Cyclops, Emma Frost, and my personal favorite, Gambit, who I've been wanting to see on screen my entire life.
For me, The Wolverine was pretty much as good as it could have been for me, as there's only so much you can do with a story that you're just not attached to.
Wolverine is a very well made film, it's very good and I enjoyed it greatly, but more than anything it's there to tide me over until X-Men: Days Of Future Past comes out.
I love this film for 1.) being the best depiction of Logan yet in this entire series 2.) being so respectful of the original story it is adapting, despite not being among my personal favorites 3.) giving people like me a little bit of love with the Jean Grey addition, connections to X-Men: The Last Stand, and the teaser to X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but this film, for me personally, had a ceiling on just how memorable / great it was going to be. For me, the movie reached it's potential and was as good as it could have been, but it was never going to be one of my favorites in the series.
