Yes, I was quite surprised at just HOW MUCH of the comic that was in the film. The trailers led you to believe that this was WIJ in name only, but it wasn't.

Nice one, i see the film took more elements from the comics than what many may lead to believe.

Yeah I never made some of those connections when I watched the film, although it doesnt help we didnt get to actually see the ninja fight:doh:

I picked up some, the end of the ninja fight being the most obvious, anyone else read the comic?

but at least they are quite a lot of visual references even if some of the characters were changed a bit.

No Yukio in pic? FAIL!

They changed her hair and gave her modern clothing, but I do think Rila's face looks like most of Miller's Yukio art.

It was okay for me. I really liked Mariko and Yukio's moments in the film.
I Particularly liked the scenes with mariko & wolverine when they hide in a village. There's some good dialogue in those scenes. Idk about Jean's final scene, it seemed more like it was his way of letting go of her

Saw it earlier today. I enjoyed it. Silver S being a big hulking robot was kinda lame, but I was not expecting the damage he did to wolverine (will that remain in DoFP?).

Over all the action was pretty good, though I still yearn for the day we actually see his claws do damage to people (I will admit actually seeing some blood on them was refreshing). I also noticed how much better the claws looked over all, both practical and cgi ones. Reducing the shine helped a lot.

While there was some cheesiness and pacing issues, overall this was a major improvement over Origins. This definitely felt like the most sophisticated x-men related film to date, and the most wolverine-like as well. I think this was Jackman's best outing as Logan too. I'm almost afraid to go back and watch X-Men 1 now, lol.

If Origins was a 5/10, I'd give this an 8/10, maybe even an 8.5.

Hugh Jackman really nails Logan in The Wolverine, Xmen 2: United and the beginning of Xmen 1 (cage fight scene at the bar and after he gets kicked out.) Those are the times I watched and felt like I was a kid again only this time it was a live action Wolverine instead of a cartoon/comic.

I think that's the most satisfying aspect of this film, feels like he has finally nailed the attitude of the character from the comics now.

I think the overall general consensus from the comments and the poll was that this film was about an 8 give or take. What do you think if anything would have made this film a 9 or 10 for you guys?

A better executed 3rd act. Aka:

-SS reveals who he is before the fight begins.
-Viper doesn't get too out there.
-SS isn't as big and actually has a duel with Logan instead of constant falling down.
-Ninja fight being longer (which will probably get rectified soon).

Give Yukio something better to do than fight Viper during the last act or have her be cut down with one strike. Even better have her fight the ninjas to keep them away from their master. Their suppose to be protectors of Yashida but they were nowhere to be seen during that last fight.

For me personally, the story itself just isn't one of my favorites. I'm more of a fan of the X-Men as a group, rather than individuals, and Logan's Japan saga isn't particularly one of my personal favorites.

That's not a knock on the story, it's a good story that I enjoy, it just doesn't have the same appeal to me.

So the fact that 1.) this was a Wolverine solo movie and 2.) it's a story that I don't have any particular personal attachment to is really the biggest knocks I have against this film.

While this film is clearly a better made film than X-Men Origins: Wolverine (as much as I love that film), the Origins film has the appeal to me of being just as much an X-Men prequel film as it is a Wolverine prequel film, it tells a story that I have a much more personal attachment to (Logan's origins with Weapon X), and includes a lot of beloved characters like Cyclops, Emma Frost, and my personal favorite, Gambit, who I've been wanting to see on screen my entire life.

For me, The Wolverine was pretty much as good as it could have been for me, as there's only so much you can do with a story that you're just not attached to.

Wolverine is a very well made film, it's very good and I enjoyed it greatly, but more than anything it's there to tide me over until X-Men: Days Of Future Past comes out.

I love this film for 1.) being the best depiction of Logan yet in this entire series 2.) being so respectful of the original story it is adapting, despite not being among my personal favorites 3.) giving people like me a little bit of love with the Jean Grey addition, connections to X-Men: The Last Stand, and the teaser to X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but this film, for me personally, had a ceiling on just how memorable / great it was going to be. For me, the movie reached it's potential and was as good as it could have been, but it was never going to be one of my favorites in the series.

higher impact and intensity of the violence

wolverine adopting and learning about various aspects of japanese culture (i wanted it to be more like the last samurai, if that makes sense) - him being more motivated to save mariko as a result

a few more wow moments - for the number of people he takes out, i felt a tad short changed in this department

a less jarring and comic-booky final fight

a more developed will yun lee

For Wolverine to pick up some of the Japanese culture, like learn to somewhat use a katana, the story structure would have to be altered. Story takes place in less than 3 days.

yeah, i know.

X-Men: Days of Future Past or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Robot

I gave it a 9:woot:

but as others have said, changes to Viper, Harada and maybe SS although I'm not too concerned with that as it had purpose at least story wise.

but the main thing: I want our ninja fight back:argh:

Reduce some of the Viper scenes (like her killing a random guy in the street, spitting poison clouds, poking her tongue on to everyone and everything!).

Get rid of the grizzly bear stuff (and include something more atmospheric, some nice shots of the Yukon wilderness, etc).

Explain what happened to Yukio, as last scene was her with him on the plane. And dub some of her lines so she is a little easier to understand.

On top of those minor niggles, I do feel Wolverine is over-exposed in this franchise so that has influenced my score a little. But it did get 8 out 10.

Whoever touches the grizzly bear scenes will taste my steel!:cmad:

Never diss the Bear:argh::woot::woot::woot:

did anyone watch beyond the trailer's face palm worthy review lol i kid you not grace randolph said this

"i think hugh jackman thought audiences came to the wolverine to see him act"

i review was'nt as scathing as mos and she did give it a 7 but it seems like she was giving it negative points for character development, not enough mutants, not enough action and sfx

Critic validation is meaningless but it's good to know most people are judging this film to be good to great.

Sometimes, people with limited taste and intellect can rally against quality cinema and the "dumb guy" induced stigma can take on a life of its own. I'm so glad The Wolverine seems to be avoiding that for the most part.
