It's like Manu Bennett's Deathstroke. Flimsy motivation, but the sheer brilliant performance makes you almost forget about it.
I bought Mark's motivation though. This was his brother. They seemed very close in that scene on the plane. And it's not like Mark was a good man before his brother's death. I don't find the need to suspend disbelief in this case. I really bought it. Slade was a diffrent story. That was flimsy because it was all a misunderstanding. Oliver chose Sara! Wait, no he didn't Ivo just shot Shado. Wait, no! That's not it. It's more straightforward here. Joe has been hunting the Mardon brothers for years. Because of this pursuit, the Mardon brothers went on that plane which crashed during the accelerator explosion. They got cool powers, sure, but Mark had also "broken about every bone" in his body. When he recoverd he found out that the man that's been hunting him and Clyde gunned down his brother. Someone he has taken care of since he was ten. He wanted revenge. Straightforward. Nothing revolutionary. But nothing really "flimsy" either.
