Logan LOGAN - Early Reactions and Reviews Thread

It's inevitable that these comparisons we're going to be made - but I think they're valid. Aesthetic differences aside, Snyder tried to make something mature, adult and different. Mangold tried to do the same thing. There's a clear difference in who executed it better though.

Well, Vulture, while referencing BvS, does bring a reasonable argument. I didn't see Logan, but in BvS grimness and misery sometimes was for edginess' sake. Not really to serve the narrative.

And the average rating keeps growing. It was 8, now it's 8,2.

I like how they used the word maturity. That's really the difference.

Scott Mendelson from Forbes wasn't really a fan. Meanwhile the sky is still blue and so is the ocean. Score is 6/10 and title: 'Logan' Is A Fine, If Formulaic, Farewell To Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. This is the guy who said that Apocalypse was a 'franchise killing disaster' and that Days of Future Past was 'glorified fan service with an epilogue that tips the film into the realm of pandering fan-fiction'. Rotten tomatoes blurb for Logan:
If you remove the graphic violence, it's not all that different from 'The Wolverine,' with Logan again finding someone to protect after turning his back on life.
Just figured it'd be worth posting a less positive review alongside all the amazing positive buzz this movie is getting. :woot:

Scott Mendelson dislikes most comic book movies. Just last year he gave Civil War, Deadpool, and Dr. Strange rotten reviews.

Even though Mendelson gave it a 6/10, it's still fresh on RT.

I like Mendelson. He's a 100% no BS critic. As far as I know.

I'll just say that his taste doesn't really line up with mine. He gave Inferno, Keeping Up With The Joneses and Ben-Hur all a fresh rating with a 6.0 as well. But it is true that he really doesn't do bs or pretend at all. He sticks to his opinion, no matter what anyone else says. That seems to be rare these days.

Oh, the "franchise killing disaster" guy. He really likes his hyperboles, huh? Well, it's still pretty cool he gave Logan a fresh rating.
That's the one. :p

My taste doesn't align with his either, but I like that he doesn't rush into giving ratings like "the best since Citizen Kane".

Getting a fresh from Mendelson is a good sign. Him and that one guy for the Guardian usually dislike CBMs.

I didn't get that. Snyder just dangled overcast skies, constipated looks, and dull colors in a bid to gain street cred. I didn't notice an ounce of interest in actually being mature.

Neither did I. I was just trying to be generous and use Snyder fans logic lol. Joking aside he was trying to be smart and deep and stuff and just failed.

Nice to see that Fox is stepping up their game after that stinker that was Apocalypse.

First Legion and now Logan!

So awesome to see all these excellent reviews! I'm happy for Hugh and everyone involved in the movie. Can't wait to check it out

Further proof that Singer needs to get gone from the X films.

Tim Miller and Mangold have shown us how it should be done.

I disagree with him there.

However, he and Jahns both pointed out the 2nd act kind of meanders. Thats what kept it from getting an A. He said the 1st and 3rd acts are perfect.

Jahns said it slows down for a reason and pays off bigly.

singer has made 1 less than stellar x men film in the past 16 years

Listening and reading to all these glowing reviews, in a quite a few cases with some really high praise indeed its hard to imagine we got to here from Origins!

Almost wish Mangold could go back and remake that to make a great trilogy.
