The Avengers Loki has an Army, We Have a Lounge!

The only Bay movie I really liked was Bad Boys, and Martin Lawrence and Will Smith made that movie for me, despite the fact that Bay directed it. I find most of his movies are really good and hilarious the first act or half, with some awesome character moments, and then devolve into monkeys flinging poo for a "script".

How his movies make billions of dollars I will never know.

I remember when Armageddon came out. It was the battle of the cosmic death rocks that summer: Armageddon vs. Deep Impact. DI was depressing, but pretty good. Armageddon made me want hurl, and not just because of the Aerosmith song.

I saw both of those movie in the theater, and while they couldn't be more different both of them were incredibly disappointing.

Deep Impact had some strong performances, but the script was uneven, poorly-paced and lacking in action. Mimi Leder directed the thing as if everyone was sleepwalking at the end of the world. The film's emotional scenes came off as an odd mixture of overacting, underacting and mawkishness.

It didn't help that I saw the movie with a fractious crowd that came expecting Armageddon-style action. At about the 1:40 mark, as characters on screen prepped for the impact, people in the theater started chanting, "Hit the Earth! Hit the Earth! Hit the earth!" so starved were they for real action in the movie. I've never seen anything like it. When the comet fragments struck, someone in the audience shouted, "Finally!" I think we were all happy when Tea Leoni's dreary character got slammed by the mega-tsunami. I'd have been pissed if she had lived after watching her depressing life unspool for two solid hours.

The Transformers movies are a guilty pleasure for me. The first one was fairly good, the second was one of the worst movies ever made, and the third was acceptable but mind-numbing. It looked great in IMAX 3D, though. What really made those movies work were the incredible CGI robots. They were a lot realer than 99% of the other CGI beings I've seen on screen. Bumblebee and Optimus were far more compelling characters than any of the humans in those movies.

Bay still sucks as a director, though. He should be forced to work under the direction of a superior craftsman for the rest of his career, churning out well-choreographed set pieces while the real director handles the character-based parts of the films.

I will add that he should never, ever be allowed to write a script again after TF2.

See, I only really like the first TF movie. The second sucked, and the third literally gave me a headache (although that could've been half pregnancy hormones and half 3D during that unnecessarily long last battle). I agree about OP and Bumblebee as chracters, especially in the first one. I wasn't feeling them so much by the DotM.

Armageddon and Bad Boys was his two best films (maybe you can add Bad Boys II and The Rock). I remember being terrified after watching Armageddon as a kid.

That's how I feel about each of the TF movies exactly. Bay does have some positives, like action, making his movies event movies, and getting his movies to look huge while being under budget.

Tip your waitresses!

I keep forgetting about The Rock. I really liked that one when I saw it. Never saw Bad Boys.

The Rock deserves honorable mentions for:

-Sean Connery!
-"How in the name of ZEUS' BUTTHOLE did you get out of your cell?"
-Sean Connery!
-ALCATRAZ!! SAN FRANCISCO!!
-Sean Connery!
-Zeus' butthole line again. I love saying that in the middle of an argument. I fully expect Zeus' butthole to be Ian's first words.
-And... Sean Connery!

If only Bay had the talent of Ridley Scott or James Cameron, and could actually craft a story that drive his awesome 'splosions and FX... Alas, he's content with more or less winging it.

The problem is that he directs with a frat boy, think-with-your-dick mentality. Who else would follow up an epic opening moon scene with an ass shot?

Boo! Somebody throw this guy out!

I suppose it's a point in his favor that he fully admits to pandering to teen boys.

Wait, that sounds wrong.

LOL. Really, it's hard not having anything to talk about, with this lack of Avengers news. :b

Well, it's a lounge thread so you can literally talk about anything.

Such as, I got an iPad last week and I can't put it down haha.
