Mystery/Thriller LOST - But Not Forgotten...Except by the Emmys - Part 1

Lindelof is such a good, 'open' guy when it comes to discussions, online forums and stuff, that he really feels the bad stuff people say to him.
I've never seen or heard a writer talking so openly about his work, like I have with Lindelof. He really lets you in into the process of writing, how hard it is, and how much he really knows. Lost finale has a bad reputation, not for the finale itself, but because how the show managed to defy expectations once again even in the last minutes, just like it did on its entire run. I love a show that can surprise me, and do something different -like Lost- and I also love a show that gives closure to what they were telling -like Breaking Bad-. And a lot of people just can't accept that.
People are stupid anyway.

Even in this forums i see a lot of people taking a crack at Lindelof and saying he's one of the biggest hacks on the industry, it doesn't help that his script and "twists" for Prometheus and Star Trek Into Darkness weren't very well received by the public.

I haven't watched Lost yet, was the finale that bad?

For me, it was not. People were expecting a mythology-heavy exposition, but it was always about the characters. And that is what the final episodes provided.
I suggest you to take away any prejudice that you may have about Lost, and if you are open-minded like me, you're gonna have one hell of a ride.

Saying the Breaking Bad finale is better than the Lost finale is like saying The Catcher in the Rye is better than One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. And I liked the Lost finale.

Comparing finales is what's really wrong. They can't be compared.

This is going to get old quickly with everyone comparing Bad's ending to everything else. I've seen it spreading like a cancer all throughout the forum. At least now that the grand finale to end finales has aired maybe we can move onto other things than how awesome Breaking Bad was.

I'm sorry, but that is complete and utter bull****. That "it's always been about the characters" nonsense is something they ginned up to explain the awful final season and nothing more.

Nevermind that the show relied very heavily on the mythology and the mysteries as it's primary selling point for five of its six seasons (and most of its sixth). Nevermind that the characters that are supposedly so important are two-dimensional caricatures. Yes, the show has always been about the characters. Clearly. :whatever:

Yep. Anyone that doesn't like Lost is clearly just a closed-minded, prejudiced idiot who is too blind to see the inherent greatness of Lost.

Well, i am open minded, but i don't like it when a great show or film starts going down the hill and pulling things out of nowhere. One that comes to mind is Naruto, started great and became aweful. Does Lost stop making sence for the sake of it or is it deeper than that?

I think it's just a matter of taste and opinion. Lost was always very mythological, bringing in time travel, Gods (to an extent), secret societies and general crazy stuff. Lindelof is a huge fan of that kind of stuff as well. IMO it was really the kitchen sink of crackpot theories and beliefs, kinda like The X files :oldrazz:

The thing about Lost is that season after season they tried something new. I can't tell you exactly what it is, without revealing too much. It's a show where you are thinking "they can't go that route" and they in fact take that route. And I admire when a show does that, and they don't play it safe.
That's why the show is so polarizing as you have read a few posts back.
My suggestion is watch the show, and make your own conclusions.

Those people can go to hell. The LOST finale was great! :cmad:

Lost was always the story of the characters and how they learned to overcome there issues and find who they really could be. The point of the island and Jacobs goal was to give them a clean slate to learn this and with help from eachother they did. The mysteries are what we try to solve in life and they spent the show trying to find the answers to them, even turning to people who they thought had the answers but really didnt. In the end the characters, esp. Jack learned the mysteries where not really as important as finding out who they really where.

Still confused on all the " no questions where answered" reasoning of people. Season 6 explained alot or left it easy for you to figure out. The only big mystery left was what was the island, and even if that was answered half those fans complaining they didn't get a answer would be complaining about what the answer was. Cant make everyone happy but still one of my favorite endings.

That's a silly argument. Some elements of finales can't be compared. But quality is clear. That's why people are bashing the Dexter finale silly, while praising the BB finale.

That said, while I wasn't a fan of Lost season 6, I didn't hate the finale. I don't consider it brilliant, but it wasn't bad.

the problem is that when you rewatch Lost its 100% clear that the writters and producers changed their mind what Lost was. in the first 2-3 seaons they were thinking about a different ending.

so now defending that it was about the characters and what Jacobs plan was is wrong IMO. because everything that Jacob did was written in the last 2 years. which was the time that IMO the writters realized that they have no idea.

there was way to much focus on the mystery and scifi elements to just ignore them. way to much.

and the ending in the church could be the ending of every movie,tv show and book in human history. just how lazy can you get?

I've never seen Breaking Bad just all the endless praise it gets spilled out through every thread where a series finale is mentioned.

Breaking Bad kind of deserves all this praise after spending 3-4 years being generally ignored.
