LotR -- 9 years later

Umm... yeah... get out of this thread, now.

The popularity of these films has not fizzled, if anything it's kept alive by the people who saw these movies as kids or young adults (I was 15 when the first one came out). I saw RotK four times in theaters. The only time that a film has even come close for me seeing again is Star Trek or HP7.

My friends from College and work still quote these films, and all recall seeing these films to each other all the time. My brother and friend watch these movies at least once a month.

Your name is very apt, because you are a very sad person for missing out on the cinematic event of the past decade, and for letting your pre-judgements stop what will probably be an amazing experience.

Speaking of apt, your opinion definitely isn't apt. You just demonstrated that you can't tell the difference between an opinion and a statistic,a sad person for missing out on them...yeah like I was positively drawn to them at some point. :whatever:

Speaking of apt, your opinion definitely isn't. And you're a blind lover of the LOTR movies.

Yep, stabbed my eyes out with Sting.
Why should it matter, at least I know what I like.
And how is my opinion not valid? I'm trying to get you to try something new. I hate it when people are so uptight about trying something.

Ugh... you're just in this thread to troll, this proved it.

How do you expect me to respect what you said after you insulted me twice at the same time?

The fact is that the movies can't turn everyone into a fan of them, quit being delusional.

That's how I talk, and I type how I talk to people.
I don't need your respect, I don't even know you.

You are clearly not 100% skilled at handling opinions that differ from yours and have a serious self-conceited issue.

God are you a friggin' weak minded bigot, and btw you sound like a really self-conceited person.

I probably am and I rejoice in it.:whatever:
And how does this make me sound like a weak minded bigot? Oh no, I've been influenced by mainstream media. It that it, because I'm honestly confused by this statement?
Like I said, you don't even know me.
I'm sorry if I'm opinionated, and can base my opinions on experiences I've actually had.

edit - Ah... so my research shows me you are one of the most disliked people on the hype. So, yeah... *clicks ignore*

All movies past 2003 are judged by these films, in terms of being epic and masterfully done. At least that's what I've been thinking. What filmmaker is going to give us a masterpiece that could out do The Return of the King? (rhetorical question)

Greatest trilogy ever put to film. LOTR is what Star Wars was when I was a kid.

I can name a bunch since 2003 even though it is rhetorical.

Really?

Way to judge a film without seeing it.

why cant people judge a movie based on clips, posters, advertisements and previews? So should I still watch yogi bear to give it a chance even though Ive made a judgement it will suck hard? I could tell months in advance little fockers was stupid and shocker middle america came through.

Those are different. Those are simple, easy (and accurate) predictions of films that were inevitably going to be terrible. Plus, where in the clips, posters, advertisements, previews, and the movie itself have Lord the Rings have shown to be corny?

But seriously, it would've been a miracle (or the s**tiest marketing campaign ever) if Yogi Bear or Little Fockers was actually going to be good based on those advertisements. :funny:

I cried for civilization when I saw yogi bear made money.
my mom saw little fockers for free with a giftcard and wanted the money returned to the card afterwards.

Ill give ya another one though more epic and mainstream. Ironman 2, matrix reloaded, spiderman 3, transformers 1 and 2, kickass. Alot of these movies I gave the old sniff test beforehand by seeing a preview and just said to myself "nah". Sometimes people can just tell by some means that there is no way theyll ever give a movie the time or day. sometimes its unfortunate like in the case of gone baby gone or the more recent the town.

marvelman2006, I'm just trying to get an idea of your taste in movies here, but what films do you actually like? Are there any you're passionate about?

For me, I haven't watched all three movies in quite some time (years). I may try and break out the extended DVDs pretty soon. I've had a craving for the movies slowly growing, and I think it's time to do something about it.

I tried reading The Hobbit once in high school, and hated it so much that I couldn't get past the first chapter or so. When I saw the first movie, I got hooked. Same thing happened to my dad. We both are two guys who hate fantasy, but LotR changed that. I think that's the enduring legacy for mainstream audiences. It's also quotable, and characters like Frodo, Gandalf, and Gollum are burned into pop culture because of it. As someone mentioned, there's not new crap coming out for the franchise, so the hoopla has worn off. I'm sure we'll see that it's all still there when The Hobbit movies finally get released.

I like adventure movies (if done right), action movies, comedies that have good humor and not big momma's house type humor. I really like sci fi movies that have new and interesting ideas that make me think in a fun way (inception, district 9). some war movies but very few, saving private ryan is my one seed in this genre. anything pixar. super hero movies that are taken seriously and not shoe horned out like the cat woman's of the world. definitely actor driven movies like the town, mystic river, true grit, forest gump and gangs of new york. I think overall good movies that have a story I can get into ya know.

Im not big on Sorcerer, goblin type movies. probably why I never got into harry potter or lotr because I feel like when they start spouting out spells and stuff I just become uninterested. I also dont like how there trying to copy the harry potter succes and try to make other mythical books into movies in an attempt to get that success.

I don't know what's changed...maybe because I'm watching a DVD on HDTV..? but I can pick out the green screen special effects more.

Maybe Star Wars has upped the bar on that.

I bet you audiences will go pretty beserk once they see the one ring hit the big screen again.

I can picture the teaser now and it's defintiely going to recieve applause.

Speedball,if you can't learn to tolerate different opinions on the internet then you should get off of it and you should also get off of it if you don't like people giving certain opinions, you're more immature then I thought. Choosing to ignore me just because I'm not 'popular'.

Dude why are you jumping on his back just because he's not a fan of them? Doe's that in some form make his opinion unacceptable?

I just never understand why people enter a thread just to hate on a film. I can understand if the film just came out, but I find this thread to be more of an appreciation thread than anything.

But you're welcome to voice your displeasures with the film. And I'll disagree.

Lol,the only time I actually talked about the movies was twice, and one of them was when someone asked me a question. Opinions change and can change.

And the two of you need to drop it. None of us care whose opinion is better than the other.

I still love these films, they have aged very well unlike jacksons other film King Kong.
