"I'm happy to disappoint you" :hehe:
So far, Aliens appears to be one of the cases where the sequel is superior to the original. I hope that feeling lasts.

I liked all four Aliens movies. :)

Yes, still a lot of people prefer the original which is a slightly different type of film. But Aliens is one of the best sequels and one on my favourite films. After that the franchise is much weaker.

Show me your banner
Come show me your sign
The Crimson King's eye is the mark to reveal you are mine

Take my hand and I'll show you where to go

I was thinking I bet Americans wouldn't have got nearly as pissed off at the NSA for spying had they just said it was a rewards program and gave everyone points for stuff. We all love points, even if they don't do anything.

:more: what's a crunk?

Getting it hype or off the chain bruh.

I consider Aliens to be a different 'beast' than Alien. Alien is more of a horror movie while Aliens is one of THE 80's action movies that a lot of current movies draw from. I love them both but for different reasons.

I honestly don't think it's fair to compare the two for the same things. I mean most people will prefer action over horror.

Don't you mean five? :o Despite how bad it was, Prometheus is still connected.

I like the way you roll.
And I agree.

I prefer action, but that's not the reason I find Aliens to be better.

One thing to add about that movie; it maintained the horror while it upped the action.
It seems to have inspired more than one Resident Evil game.

So looks like I'm just gonna bump up to a 2 TB HD for my laptop for $100. It's only 5400 RPM which sucks but I don't feel like paying $400 for 7200 RPM since I could get into a SSD for not much more. Pretty sure the 2 TB should last at least 6 months if not more if I don't download everything and just the stuff I'm gonna need. I can replace the optical drive for another 2 TB for another $150 or so. I'll probably do that with my next commission check.

DJ, got a question about song covers. What's the point in a relatively new band covering a classic song by an established band? It seems like it would invite unwanted criticism of the new band's flaws, some of which could be due to the listener's bias to the original band's work.

Well, they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If it's a well-known artist crossing genres (like Johnny Cash doing Hurt from NIN or Chris Cornell doing Billie Jean) there is potential for awesomeness. If it's an up and coming band with a fresh take on a classic (ie Alien Ant Farm doing Smooth Criminal) there is also potential for awesomeness but much more likely to draw the ire of fans of the original so it's a double-edged sword. There are bands that make a living doing nothing but covers or as a tribute band although they rarely ever get famous from it.

If you want to hear what I consider some awesome covers check out Richard Cheese and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Both do nothing but covers and make them their own and amazing.

Forged in the fires of hate, vengeance and betrayal
The race of Man has come to rule

more power metal.

A lot of bands start out doing covers because it's easier to learn material that's already written. They start out playing material they like, and later on when they write their own music they incorporate elements of that material.

Bands that are already established often do covers of songs that are relatively unknown, even if they're by a famous band. It's also a way to pay tribute, like Metallica did with Garage Inc.

Yup, funny enough, a lot of up and coming bands start out as Christian rock bands since it's a lot easier to gigs that way so they can get practice playing out. Always makes me laugh when I think of that.

I may be speaking out of turn here, but aren't Christian rock bands all about the lyrical content.. praising the Lord and such? Take a I-IV-V-I progression, slap some of those lyrics on there and you're golden.

I couldn't be so disingenuous, though.

Some covers are pretty good. There's a game called Stubbs the Zombie from a decade or so back and the soundtrack has covers of older songs from a lot of bands. They're all really well done.

The game itself was freaking amazing. You were a zombie and got to start a zombie apocalypse in what was basically a futuristic 50's setting. I'm still sad we never got a sequel.

Here's the soundtrack list.

Good song choices. Lonesome Town, Mr. Sandman, If Only I Had a Brain, Lollipop.
