Well, here's my pitch for a live action MM series, which given what they've done with the Supergirl version I think is doable.

Starts out in the 1950's. Go with the basics of the original origin with some tweaks. Make the White Martians, which we only see in flash backs to his life on Mars (done in animated form from J'onn's memories) the reason for the death of all Martians and J'onn simply was lucky (or unlucky) enough to be pulled out of there by Dr. Erdel's experiment. I could go either way with changing up the whole Erdel dies immediately part. I could see him living long enough to give J'onn a positive impression of humanity or it could be good to start off J'onn from the get go in a place he has no clue about with no allies. In any case it's the 1950's and you play up the dichotomy of what J'onn sees in media with the reality he witnesses and experiences in other's minds. I would for sure go with the Martian cultural approach of duality and talk about how J'onn is both a "Manhunter" (the best he can come up with to explain his primary role on Mars) and a philosopher, two things he excelled at to honor his parents. He takes up the guise of a real life unmarried Detective named John Jones. I'd move the action from Colorado or Middletown to maybe something like Chicago or Detroit to put J'onn closer to a more mixed and urban environment. I for sure would have that J'onn in Martian form(s) and J'onn in his Jones ID would look way different. So the actors playing the parts would be two different people. I don't get J'onn looking kinda like himself when he is in disguise. Why would he moon us? No, one actor would play J'onn in his Martian form from start of series to the end but the other ID's would be by totally different actors. This would be great for guest star opportunities because in a way they would all be getting to play J'onn in a sense and do some super powered/superhero action.

First season would be J'onn on Earth just figuring out human society and slowly realizing he was not only ripped away from Mars through space but through time as well. So there is no home for him to go back to even if he could. But that would be a season long arc. Along the way he tackles things in secret more often than not and learns of other extraterrestrial contacts on Earth. You could fit in some other DC alien races and cosmic threats that way. Maybe he even learns there's a loose nit community of aliens on the planet? In any case J'onn's persona would be less judgmental and more Zen bemused with humankind. He's a great character to go over all kinds of issues of identity with. Sprinkled through the season would be hints of a malevolent alien conspiracy which finally reveals itself to be the machinations of the White Martian race. Only when the White Martians appear do we see the flashbacks go from animated to live action as they delineate fully the story which would include the fact that J'onn's own brother Malefic allied with the White Martians to destroy the Greens. In a last ditch effort J'onn defeats the White Martian refugees (We save the brother for a later season) but in doing so "John Jones" the detective must "die". Thus leading to the next season...

Where J'onn adopts another or perhaps multiple identities. His civilian ID could be male, female, different ethnicities. Each season would take place in another time period. So if the first season maybe covered a few years in the 1950's the second season would be the 1960's, the third the 1970's and so on. J'onn going from place to place in America and maybe even other countries, trying to do his best to fit into a world he's decided to call his own. You fit in the appropriate DC characters for each decade to do guest shot/supporting stuff with. In the 1950's pull in the likes of say The Challengers Of The Unknown. The 60's stuff like The Secret Six ect. The 1970's could bring in Etrigan, the Demon. J'onn learns about the human experience first hand by adopting various identities from the time and interacting with the characters representing those times from the comics. You could explore all kinds of stories this way but keep J'onn from doing anything too out there in terms of production values simply because he is keeping a low profile. Make the stories very character driven but a few times a season go all out with some spectacular showcase of J'onn's abilities. I think you could get enough juice out of the concept to bring J'onn to the present day, so six season or thereabouts. That last season would be the big showdown with Malefic and J'onn starting to see the rise of the other DC heroes.

That's my pitch.
I like it! Definitely sounds do-able on a decent TV budget, too. As long as he gets to break out the powers and turn into a freakin' dragon at some point I'll be there, lol. I like the whole "different era every season" approach a la Fargo.

At the “Pop Life: Art in a Material World” exhibition that ran at London’s Tate Modern in 2009, there appeared an unusual video in which a major movie star vamped and pouted in the middle of a busy Tokyo thoroughfare while singing the Vapors’ surprise 1980 hit “Turning Japanese.” (You have probably heard the song on the radio countless times if you don’t also recall its use in comedy classics like Sixteen Candles and Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion.)

The video showcased Kirsten Dunst, a multi-million-dollar Hollywood star best known for her appearances in the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man franchise. It was directed by McG (Charlie’s Angels, Terminator 4: Salvation) and produced by prolific Japanese pop artist Takashi Murakami, whose signature “superflat” style involves heavy use of turbo-sexualized images of women dressed up as little girls and women with exaggerated cleavage. Basically, Murakami’s work is like an overdose on the saccharine and cartoonish side of Japanese sexuality.

Hnngh af. Grew up with Raimi's Spidey flicks. Always had a huge crush on her. This tingles my spidey senses.

Heh, I'm getting deja vu when Simon Kinberg said Fan4stic wasn't a disaster.

Not a very endorsing statement for a movie regardless.

Seriously comparing Suicide Squad with Fant4stic?

Wondy's getting a premiere on 25/5, does that mean they lift the embargo then? I have no idea myself.

This sounds awesome..totally would watch that.

Multiple actors things sounds cool, but wouldn't that increase the production cost? In that case, they would have to go with a venue that can afford to support such a thing, like Netflix or HBO. HBO would also mean better vfx.

I am still waiting on HBO to do more DC/Vertigo shows..

I stumbled across this the other day on YouTube. Best thing McG has ever directed.

So this bald bastah Aronosfsky copied Perfect Blue and The Red Shoes, and made it into Black Swan.

A few changes here or there, but the goddamn same.

LOL bald bastah Nolan tried to deny he took from Paprika for Inception too.

"Excuse me, who are you?"
Man, Perfect Blue still haunts me. Such a masterpiece. I have yet to watch Black Swan.

On a slightly related note, you should really check out the anime OVA "Golden Boy," BN. Funniest s*** I've ever seen in my life, and so pervy. Right up your alley.

That's not how it works.

All Oliva asked for was a little professional courtesy.

Twitter man. I'm telling you. Anybody with a handle can hide behind a screen. Back in the day you didn't like something you had to sack up and say it on camera.

It's why I respect folks like Scott and Gibson. They say what's on their mind instead being a bytch and hiding behind a computer screen.

I hate Twitter. Only got an account for movie news as it's the quickest for instant s***.

He seems to be quite well-versed in the art of trolling. What is unfair is that such trolls are able to get people behind them and troll some more, especially, if the person they are against is a newbie, it doesn't matter (to them) that other person's point could be more vaild and correct.

Edit: Internet bullying.

Yeah. If the guy has an opinion that's obviously fair enough... but no need for him to tell people that they are wrong and be a d***head about it.

Same reason I use twitter.

I commend Jay Oliva for staying classy and explaining his position. Great guy, and I would love if he moves over to the DC films division as a director. Love his animated work.

He does freelance storyboarding for the DCEU, MCU, and Fox-Men. I'm sure he'd like his own live action flick, but the way I see it he's well on his way. It's only a matter of time.

hey what are the episodes of justice league/jlu to watch?

All of it is worthwhile, but if you are pressed for time you can start with JLU without getting too lost. It's my all time favorite super hero TV show.
