Liam's def not a disappointment. The dude has all of the Hunger Games movies on his resume. I dont think he's exactly asking Chris to borrow money. Lol

How is that a good thing?! :funny:

Does this Pecker fella got tapes of Ben Affleck's late night bender in his safe? lol

Seems to me that Pecker's like a classic old time crook. Some Hollywood people will be quaking in their boots. heh

The National Enquirer kept a safe containing documents on hush money payments and other damaging stories it killed as part of its cozy relationship with Donald Trump leading up to the 2016 presidential election, people familiar with the arrangement told The Associated Press.

I haven't kept up with Miley lately, but I'll tell you this much. Miley at peak-crazy, like with the cultural appropriation and stupid ass hairstyle...I still would've, fam. I still've would've.

"Cultural appropriation"?

She used black culture to her advantage back in like 2013 then condemned it last year when it no longer suited her image. Like this girl spent a year and however long twerking, using black girls as props, and making tracks about Jordans. Clownish.

Still would've though.

I legit had no idea booty shaking had been re-named to twerking until Miley did it.

She was like 15 years late on that. Ying Yang Twins made a song called "Whistle While You Twurk" back in 1999 or 2000. Spelling has changed, but the word has been around forever. Older than the YYT song for sure.

How did she condemn it? Cause when it comes to "cultural appropriation", Nicki Minaj and Beyonce have been "guilty" of doing the same thing. I mean isn't that what the so-called melting pot should be about. If Cyrus actually disrespected black culture, that's a different story. What did she do?

huh.
Of all the songs I caught on MTV back when it was still a music channel, never heard that.

Think it has more to do with a country singer/starlet swerving into what's pop & this is after her Hannah Montana vers of pop.

Neither have been guilty of that because the definition of cultural appropriation is the adoption of elements of a minority culture by a dominant culture. Black folks are not the dominant culture. That aside, neither of them have anything to do with my point about Miley and bringing them up rings of "whataboutism."

As far as your question about the melting pot, an equal cultural exchange would be the better way to go. It lacks the power imbalance, colonialism, and actually involves thorough understanding.

All of that is to say, an equal cultural exchange is not what happened with Miley. She just picked the parts she could sell for her image and normalized them for white people. Her song 23 was a slap in the face to me, especially as a Chicagoan. People get killed over Jordan's back home. My homie got jumped and had to walk home in his socks because they stole his cash too. And this was before smartphones so his ass was just out there trekking.

So to hear this dumbass song celebrating one of the most coveted items a black youth can have, one that kids literally get murdered over, just so she can look edgy rubbed me every wrong way possible. Plus it was a **** song. And that's just one example.

Huh. Honestly, when I think of cultural appropriation by a singer I think of something like this.

And I don't find anything wrong with that since these people are artists and artistic imagery is a crucial part of their career. However if they actually disrespected the culture they appropriated as Scribe mentioned, that's obviously wrong and that's why I asked about it.

Minorities, by definition, cannot commit cultural appropriation. There has to be an imbalance of power in order for cultural appropriation to happen. It is, by its nature, incredibly harmful.

Neither have been guilty of that because the definition of cultural appropriation is the adoption of elements of a minority culture by a dominant culture.

Thought this was just about a representative of one culture adopting elements from another, how did it become about dominance or power dynamics.

Black folks are not the dominant culture. That aside, neither of them have anything to do with my point about Miley and bringing them up rings of "whataboutism."

It made sense to bring it up since you don't seem to have an issue when another culture is appropriated by a non-white singer. And Minaj appropriated elements of Asian and Mexican culture, which aren't dominant cultures in the west as well. The argument wasn't related to dominance either way.

I still don't think I understand how did she "condemn" black culture, as you previously put it. So she appropriated it for marketing purposes and that offended you for personal reasons, I get that, but but how did she condemn that culture by making a song about MJ or his Air Jordans? Some Asian girl could've just as easily been offended by Minaj dressing up like a geisha, or a Mexican fan by her "Senile" video.

I can concur this "23" single is crap, but all I'm hearing and seeing is just another showboating rap song.
Replace gold whatever with expensive branded sneakers.

I think what threw me off more after Miley's wild ride was the popularity of Iggy Azalea and Zara Larsson.

I can predict how certain folks in this thread react to any given statement.:hehe:

Anyway the Solado composer is working on The Joker movie.

You mean even after you block them because you supposedly don't care for what they have to say, yet you always conveniently end up responding to what they say anyway? That's comedy.

I legit see a post before scrolling up and guessing right who wrote it. :sly:

Because I specifically said "cultural appropriation" which is literally defined by an imbalance of power between two cultures, one of which is the dominant majority.

It made sense to bring it up since you don't seem to have an issue when another culture is appropriated by a non-white singer. And Minaj appropriated elements of Asian and Mexican culture, which aren't dominant cultures in the west as well. The argument wasn't related to dominance either way.

Again, I was talking about cultural appropriation. What Minaj did was not appropriation because she is not part of a dominant culture. You're operating on some definition of the term you've made up. You can't argue about cultural appropriation without factoring in cultural dominance. That's literally part of the definition of the term.

I still don't think I understand how did she "condemn" black culture, as you previously put it. Because she went on to do an interview where she explicitly condemned rap music AFTER it no longer suited her image and career goals. And this was the same brand of rap music she'd tried to align herself with years prior. Like she straight up asked her song writers to give her something that was "urban" and "feels black." Her actual words. She's a ******* culture vulture.

These aren't just an expensive brand of sneakers. These are quite possibly the most coveted items of black culture. My homies legit celebrated me when I got my first pair. To this day I can count on one hand how many times they've even seen the outdoors. They are a precious commodity within my culture. My mom doesn't even want me wearing them back home, along with my Yeezys, because folks get killed over them. My brother owns over 400 pairs of sneakers and his Jordans are his most prized possessions and the only brand he won't resell.

Any way to change that? There's probably a number of branded things people will actually inflict harm onto/forcibly take from another over the value of those things, but that doesn't make this any less of a crime.

used to be big into the sneaker game myself, not like waiting in line at 3 am in the cold, but still.

always wanted to own a pair of raptor 7's, those are my dream shoes

Hard to say. Probably would help if the releases, particularly for retro items weren't so damn exclusive. They create this whole frenzy around them. They're intentionally not matching supply with demand.

But I feel like apps like GOAT help. Resellers hike up prices for sure, but at least you can snag a pair of kicks without even having to put pants on. I got my Yeezys that way.
