its basically saying the story isn't worthy of the character hugh/wolverine has become and his presence is too good for a simplistic story to end on.

It's an R-Rated superhero movie about the murdery guy with knives in his hands that has a bigger body count than most slasher villains.

As for the second one, no character is too great for a story as long as it's told well. You could have a book about Captain America going for Ice Cream or Hulk going to the mall for new pants and still make it interesting.
