The Dark Knight LR: Has some news for us

Personally, I thought the final scene between Rachel and Bruce in 'Begins' offered both closure AND the possibility of further stories being told using the character. Not having a character return when the possibility of further involvement by said character in future stories IS annoying, regardless of whether or not there's explanation given concerning why the character isn't back.
Of course there are possibilities for future stories. It's called "not being dead". Regardless, the fact that the ending of BB does not require Rachel to return, is enough of a reason to not include her on the chance that the actress does not come back.

as much as I want to take this as news, I'm still going to wait until there is a press release saying "so and so is RACHEL DAWES in TDK". until then, this is still rumor.

who knows, maybe this is just part of Nolan's "intimidation game" on the fans to mislead us

JOOC, why is everyone assuming that the role is being recast because the producers didn't like Katie Holmes's acting? It's far more likely, IMO, that she opted not to return.

Because most people here are not smart.

Obviously they didn't cast Katie sight unseen; she auditioned same as everyone else. They obviously chose her because the character was meant to be sweet and idealistic, and while Katie Holmes is not a great actress she projects those qualities in abundance.

If she is not returning, it likely means that Tom Cruise is not letting her out of the basement and the tabloid covers are true.

Either that or some suit at WB reads this board and saw so many of you pissing and moaning about Katie that they decided to 86 her.

Which I hope is not the case.

That.....and because she was the only actress that tested. :o

Well they obviously had her in mind, then. See above comment by me.
That....or she was the only actress willing to come.

I believe it was stated that Nolan had Katie in mind when he wrote the part. Or was it Goyer? I dunno - but I will try to find the interview.

Well that's what the reports were saying, so it's based on fact. :o

I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to get an actress to agree to come out and play Chris Bale's love interest. In case you haven't noticed, ladies like him. They obviously were satisfied with Katie or they wouldn't have sought her for the role. It's that simple.

It's strange how all we've heard since BB was released was how much everyone hated Holmes, now she's gone and it's all "OH NOEZ!"

But I do understand the distaste for re-casting. I'd rather have Rachel just disappear as well.

I don't care about the recast -- hell, doesn't anyone watch James Bond movies.

Norton FTW.

Agreed on both counts.
The Dawes character could easily be written out and a new one in if they just wanted a love interest, she wrapped her arc up in BB,to recast is dumb and there's no reason why either

WHO THE HELL IS THAT HOTTIE!?!?

also- please NO JAMIE FOXX. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?! Out of those choices i'll take edward norton. but i'm still hoping for schreiber or pierce as my third candidate.

recast- S-T-O-O-P-I-D. AND WHY!?! katie holmes is too good to do another bit role in a massively successful and well regarded franchise? i HATE incontinuity.

and why no penguin? oh well, if the reason is to give more time to joker, and a pre-two face harvey dent, then that's a decision worth making.

hey- where is ronnie shade lately?

I would say Rachel Wiesz(sp) to replace holmes if they are going to try and keep her somewhat similar looking.

Giant magazine did say years back that Nolan met Katie on some gathering and like her a lot and when he and Goyer created the Rachel Dawes character he immediately thought of Katie and no other actress.

The way Nolan described in Latino Review way back and on Black Film article he really likes Katie the actress and admires her as a person.
Even her relationship with Tom didnt bother Nolan. Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine adores Katie a lot too. Michael Keaton didnt have nice things to say about the young actresses today even his costar Lindday Lohan but when he talked about Katie Holmes he really loves her like his own daughter. Keaton even said she's really a good girl and so proud of her that she's a Batman leading lady. This was in his interview at Access Hollywood and Critic Joblo.

whoever said that a missing katie holmes could mean no rachel dawes in the sequel- that's a stronger possibility than them recasting for an essentially useless part. If they want to say something through a female character, they can give the character a new name along with a new face. that's obvious to me, and they're expert screenwriters. No dawes required.

ALSO- if renee montoya IS in the movie- check this blurb out from wikipedia about her. Interesting:

"When Gotham City is destroyed by an earthquake in the "No Man's Land crossover, Renee forms a friendship with the criminal Two-Face. She is able to enlist Two-Face's kinder Harvey Dent persona in helping with aid and relief efforts, and the mentally unstable man falls in love with her."

cooooooooooooooooool.....
