Transformers was pure awesomeness. I've never actually sat through all of Bad Boys, but that's the level that movie should operate on. It should be fast, funny and mindless. I realize most people take their pet characters very seriously, but you simply can't sell those characters that way.

You could sell them alone that way, especially Iron Fist with the tournament arc

Yeah, sometimes mindless action flicks actually work. Like The Rundown and the Die Hard series. Deadpool is another character that I can see done that way. Balls to the wall violence and explosions.

The can always use it as a spinoff. That way we'd still get Luke Cage and Misty Knight's involvement.
I don't really think Iron Fist markets well on his own, I think they be better off spinning off his franchise like you said.

Yeah, we'll never agree on that one.

I'm all for it being fast and fun, but mindless? Nah.

I think iron fist would sell just fine. Its like Star Wars I attribute the prequels poor quality to one other element that is rarely brought up. Han Solo. HE represents western American philosphy which acts as the vehicle which we explore the Jedi which is very Eastern based.

Iron Fist in the tournament arc bringing all the worldstogether would work very well.

Yeah, totally. I think the one film I think I'd totally do as something entirely non-action would be Ant-Man. I'd totally pitch that as a Sci-Fi/Horror film like The Incredible Shrinking Man meets Hostel (Basically I've have Pym go get revenge on the men responsible for killing his first wife, Maria -- essentially setting up his future abusive relationships and missteps).

I just think it would work better after Heroes for Hire and his friendships and relationships are established. Then we can show just how big the world of Iron Fist is in a sequel and how much his friends can't possibly comprehend all the responsibility that he has but they try to anyway.

I think there would be to big a tone difference. H4H would undoubtedly be made semi-comedic by the studio. I wouldnt include the H4H in the tournie arc even though they had their part. Id rather Iron Fist come back from the tournament and find his city overrun with crime and hire H4H to help him. That way they can be semi-comedic but feel obligated to keep it dramatic as well

Sometimes you have to be though, not every property lends itself to insightful commentary or meaningful storylines.

I think mindless is the wrong word here. Blade 1 and 2 are everything you described but they certainly weren't mindless. They managed to establish relationships very well and did a great job developing them. I mean bringing Whistler back was done so well that it actually didn't feel like a copout or plot device but something legit.

If we can get movies with that level of story quality along with the action that made the Blade movies so popular it'd be perfect. The Blade movies are the only Marvel movies that I can really enjoy on a non-fanboy level. They're just genuinely great action flicks that many comic book movies should strive for in quality (okay, the first two movies anyway).

I think that's jumping into the big guns too early though. We'd be starting a movie with the superhero, his origin, just how crazy powerful he is, only to find out 40 minutes in that it's nothing and have him learn even CRAZIER techniques and about this whole history that not only surprises and confuses him but surprises and confuses the audience. It's kind of like making a Thor movie and then making him King Thor in that very same movie. Too much too quick.

You wouldnt start with an origin:

1)because its lame to start with an origin

and

2) the tournament arc was so drenched in iron fist history/lore that its easily explainable, and Danny being American out of America, they tend to be overconfident but underqualified.

Well not necessarily starting with his origin (that'd take forever anyway since it's pretty much been his life) but go the Blade route with this. He exists and his story is told later, yadda, yadda, yadda. What I mean is the audience will be introduced this guy for the first time. Just learning about the character and what makes him tick only to then dive into this even deeper pool and be overwhelmed with this stuff. I just think it's too much of an upgrade too quick. Like the black Spidey suit in the first Spider-man movie, or Extremis armor in the first Iron Man movie, and such and such. I mean where do you go from there? This should be like the peak of the character.

my gripes

1. You talk about looking like your from the streets but Will Smith, henry Simmons and Taye Diggs along with the other guy cheiwetal something all don't have that look and have never been known to give off the street especially the African street vibe

2.Tyrese and Henry simmons are horrible actors at best. With such an cult hero you need an actor that totally defines him with his acting ability like what downy did. and I don't think tyrese or henry can convey his history and personality through his characteristics at all

3. Nooooooooooooooo Wesley Snipes!!!!

I think all those guys can easily pass for street characters. Will Smith's career STARTED because of it. This Chris Judge guy just comes off very...feminine to me. He just doesn't scream Luke Cage to me. At all.

Just try picture all of these guys saying "Sweet Christmas!" and tell me who sounds more convincing to you.

There is no upgrade. Iron Fist is in fact over his head and doing what he was prophesized to do(i believe)

My gripe is with Chiwetal who was not believable in Four Brothers

Come on. You know the theme to the Fresh Prince. The whole point of the character was that he was raised on the streets. RickRoll's trying to argue that Will Smith doesn't look street when he's made career of it.

Found these by the way and it seems like the perfect size for Luke Cage in a movie. Man does he need the facial hair though.

Oh. When I think of the start of his career I think of Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. And "street" they were not.

"Street" was most def. not what I got from listening to them. More like club bangers, and remembering the good times kinda thing.

But "Street", no, not at all.

Now you want street, take it back oldschool with the Wu-tang Clan, Biggie Smalls, Tupac, and NWA. They would be street.

To someone who brought up Chiwetel - He's candidate for Black Panther, not Luke Cage.

cool sculptures-- yeah, modern cage needs the goatee, or some 5'oclock shadow..

...so if Marvel indeed plans to not make R-movies, then PG-13 Cage.. hmm.. no cussing, I guess..

I want some answers on this film, ASAP.. somebody ask Kevin Feige at the next convention...

Even PG-13 can have a little cussing, and expect it if John Singleton is still director.

John Singleton will work the movie nicely, cussing or not.
