Luke Cage Luke Cage costume thread

Brother should wear whatever he feels comfortable in. I just think the lineup would look really unique. You have Jessica, Daredevil and Iron Fist all suited up in colorful costumes, and Cage just stands there in jeans and a shirt.

I want Luke Cage to be the only one to dress differently every time they team up.

The degree he should have a costume depends on what they're doing. Is he "Hero for Hire" or not. If he's a hero for hire, he should create a costume for the marketing gimmick. Once he gets costumers, however, he should probably abandon it. I don't see the need for him to fight in the costume. I could even see people come in and be disappointed he's just wearing street clothes.

But really the only "costume" that I think is necessary is the belt.

He should have a costume. Even if it's just a 'Luke Cage' branded yellow T-shirt, he should have something. If they can somehow work the Power Man headband into it, all the power in the world to them. That would be the ideal.

I'm hoping for some appearance by his "power jacket" even if just one episode.

Cage doesn't need a costume. Just let him wear street clothes.

One of the above.

The second picture he is wearing gauntlets with controls in them for prison restraints when he ran the Thunderbolts. Pretty sure the first one is just an affectation

If the tiara doesn't make an appearance I'm gonna be pissed.

But seriously, black jeans, yellow t-shirt and maybe the "Cage" belt.

Wait...is Jessica going to be Jewel? I thought the series as going to be more like Alias. Just her in regular clothes.

The Cage don't need no costume fool.

He exudes cool fool

If the show lasts into a second season, I can see the original costume showing up if Luke participates in a 1970s/Halloween party somewhere, then has to go into action without changing.

If you consider a billowy yellow shirt unbuttoned and regular pants a costume, then sure. If you consider a yellow t-shirt and black jeans a costume, then, yes, absolutely.

You're talking about a man of the people who prefers to dress like a regular Joe. The guy was running the Avengers in black t-shirts and sunglasses.

Actually, when he started, it's clear that he's deliberately adopting a "costume" because that's what people expect. He isn't like other heroes who think the costumes works in some psychological way or make them look better, he views it as a marketing strategy.

More explanation:

Luke Cage is a hustler in the most positive interpretation of that word. He’s a street entrepreneur. It’s central to his character. After all, the title of his original series was Luke Cage, Hero For Hire. He’s the type of guy who is always looking for the angle. He’ll search for a way to make the most of his present circumstances, while keeping one eye on the horizon for the next opportunity. The above scene from the first issue of Luke Cage: Hero For Hire was his “I-shall-become-a-bat” moment. It was not only the first time he put on his costume, but it established that from the outset, Luke was a savvy businessman who intuitively understood the power of marketing.

Through the years, readers have mocked Luke Cage’s metal headband and yellow shirt with the butterfly collar, but Luke was always in on the joke, too. Luke recognized that superheroes were popular, and with his newfound abilities, he could capitalize on the public’s fascination with them to make money. He knew the costume was “hokey” the moment he put it on, but also knew he was selling the image of a superhero that anybody could hire. If that was his image — his brand –then he needed to look the part. Therefore, Luke used his meager reward money to satisfy his most immediate need for accomodations and then INVESTED the rest into funding his innovative business venture as a hero for hire. Without a bolt of cloth made from unstable molecules or Peter Parker’s sartorial skills, he bought a combination of off-the-rack pieces and assembled a makeshift costume.

Yes, but it wasn't a cliche superhero costume. It was just regular clothes he got at a thrift store.

He was actually poking fun at all that by adopting his look.

They were not regular clothes from a thrift store, at least at first. According to Hero for Hire 2, vol.1, in the flashback scene, the outfit was an escape artist, Houdini style. Luke admired the symbolism and used various pieces of fake chains and stuff and flashy magician poof shirts to design his superhero outfit. Even Luke's business cards had a 'cage' design on them.

Yeah...

But it was still second hand clothes from a flea bag costume shop.

No costume, but yellow should be constantly worked into his ensemble.
