Luther coming to BBC America

Even though I'm ecstatic we're getting more Luther I can't help but feel disappointed we're only getting two episodss. Why are British series so short?!!:cmad:

Is John going to get a new coat?

I wonder if he will get a new sidekick/dead friend walking?

Old sourpuss Erin Gray could be his sidekick I guess. She isn't John's number 1 hater anymore.

Man, I did not handle Ripley's death well. Luther is destined to be alone.

I'm still not sure how Luther isn't back in a mental institution after all the heartbreak he has suffered. He should of gone full on crazy be now.

Take your pick of the many reasons

The BBC is public funded non-commercial television.
We don't contract actors/writers/directors for multiple seasons.
Smaller country means smaller television audience/market.
Everyone gets bored easy.

Short and sweet. I want longer seasons too..but i'd rather have shorter quality seasons, vs longer so-so quality ones.

Synopsis
“pitted against his most chilling adversary yet, haunted by the ghosts of his past and hell-bent on retribution” as he’s “drawn into a terrifyingly complex case that pushes him closer to the edge than he’s ever been.”

Producer Elizabeth Kilgarriff says
“It’s very exciting to have Idris Elba back as DCI John Luther and to be in East London shooting the show’s fourth installment. Neil Cross has pulled out all the stops to make this the biggest, scariest story yet and it’s a privilege to welcome such a glittering array of acting talent to our already stellar cast.”

Creator Neil Cross will write the special, and Sam Miller (Fortitude) will direct it.

Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy), Darren Boyd (Fortitude, Spy), John Heffernan (Ripper Street), and Patrick Malahide (The Paradise), with Michael Smiley and Dermot Crowley returning as Benny Silver and DSU Martin Schenk respectively.

Balon Greyjoy and Ygritte from Game Of Thrones. Star lord's mom may be his new love interest.

East London's favourite cop is back in his trademark coat and red tie are back.

Fox Puts ‘Luther’ Remake on Hold as they can't find a leading man to fill Idris Elba's boots.

Fox is hitting pause on its Luther adaptation.

The network has opted to push the cast-contingent drama out of the busy pilot season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The network originally picked up the drama — a remake of BBC's Emmy-nominated, Idris Elba starrer from creator Neil Cross — in November, handing out a rich put-pilot commitment. That was followed in January with a cast-contingent pilot pickup.

Given the overwhelming demand for leads — sources tell THR that Fox was out briefly to Marlon Wayans to star — the network will wait until the crush of pilot season is over before resuming its search for a leading man. Diverse leads have been in particularly high demand this pilot season as the broadcast networks look to build upon the success of hits including Empire and How to Get Away With Murder.

Luther becomes the first project this season to be rolled out of the frenzy of pilot season. Last year, multiple pilots were pushed as the casting crush — which becomes even more harried given competition from cable, streaming as well as new scripted players — continued to intensify. CBS rolled The McCarthys from 2013 to last season where it scored a series order; the network pushed The Mistake to this development season, where it continues to remains uncast; and Taxi-22, previously developed for HBO, tapped John Leguizamo to star this season.
From the hollywood reporter.

Marlon Waynes? They weren't even trying :o

Someone like Chad Coleman (Tyreese from The Walking Dead/Cutty from The Wire) would be a better choice.

I really think that NBC's The Office is the last show where it was kinda okay to have an American remake.

But since then the world's gotten smaller thanks to social media, BBC America, Netflix, etc. A show like Luther or Sherlock is as popular now as it is in England. That wouldn't be the case 10 years ago.

Also, Idris Elba is not some obscure English actor either. He has has a big following in the US, and has been in a bunch of tentpoles. You can't just 'replace' him with Marlon Waynes.

Marlon Wayne's play Luther...:funny: Whatever those guys at Fox are smoking I want some of it!

Idris Elba lets us know Season 4 for Luther is wrapped in his own eccentric way :yay:

I doubt Alice will show up. It's only a 2-parter. Adding her in might feel forced.

Alice has to show up, last we saw them, he made a choice to be with her. As crazy as that sounds considering how they met.

Why would it feel forced when that's the last thing we ended on, lol.

1) There's likely a time jump between where we left off and 2) Ruth Wilson is tied up filming her hit Showtime series The Affair, over in the states.

True.

I guess it wouldn't be much different from the jump between Seasons 2 and 3.

It never sat well with me that he went off to be with Alice. I mean the woman is a freaking sociopath. She murdered her parents in cold blood and got off free as a dove.

The reason it never sat well with me is that one wrong move and Alice might just decide to slit his throat in his sleep or slowly poison his food and then decorate the walls with his organs.

Alice is Luther's Hannibal Lecter. The two of them are drawn to one another even though she is a calculated psychopath and he is a mentally unstable reckless cop.

Luther helped Alice escape the mental institution which I think he did partly out of guilt. Alice took the rap for killing Reed and slit her own wrists.

I'm not sure Alice would ever kill John. She has helped him a number of times. I think Alice could possibly kill someone close to John though.

Elba sees Luther as a superhero.
